Having trouble uploading pics again. The first few load fine the it locks up and will only load in classic view. I'll try it again here. This piece is from a Ford tractor backhoe. It part of the boom swing. It was repaired once before, but very poorly, they did no v-ing and had little penetration.

I ground off all the old weld and the plate they had added and v'd it good before welding.

I welded it with 7018, starting with a pass on the inside, then ground out the outside to make sure I got full penetration. Then ran passes on alternating sides til done keeping it clamped in place to prevent pulling as much as posible.

Some more pics, had To go to classic again. Once it
was fully welded I ground flat the outside and added
a plate for reinforcement. I used 3/8 but 1/4 would
have been enough and a bot neater, I just didn't
have any.

That repair is sturdy ! I think the first guy had a welder but not reallly much training as any weld on that thick of a piece without prepping ... well look what happened.

Took me a while to figure out what you were talking
about. Lol. That's a framing hammer and the "fin" is
used to twist studs into place for nailing.
