Just got another outfit. SLIP AND FALL ALARM DEVICES!

Push 1 for a rep.
Recording: You are number 43, please wait.

MY INTENT: According to my "legal counsel":::::

Liable suit against you for causing ME to trip over my hydraulic jack just racing to answer a possible personal call from a "LOVED ONE"

I hung up before I was caller #1.

HAPPY HR HERE. Besides, their transmitter has a way to screw up my "DISH RECEPTION".

I was on a no call list, still got calls. Solution, I got rid of my land line I had since 1977. Really don't miss it. Cell works great for me. Now most calls are from people I know. Any calls that come in and they aren't in my phone book, I WON'T ANSWER. Problem solved. Save money. Fewer calls too.

I got a crank call this morning.

From caller ID I knew it was a junk call so I answered the phone in Japanese. After a few more words of Japanese, the gal said, "Have a good day", and hung up.

GOOD IDEA of you.......but I need my land line for leal documents FAX MACHINE. Cannot afford another telephone service. Plus, just to send this....land line.

Mistake: A lot of us "seniors" want to have our "CELL PHONE" the same number as we had for about 50 yrs. That way our old "high school" friends, mostly widows, can call US with the numbers we wrote on the trees!

John,PA Bored, lonely, and wantig.

THANKS!

Just tell them you are on the no call list and ask for a name and company they represent. There are substantial fines for violating the no call list.

They hang up and remove you from their list.

A lot of solicitors are ignoring the "do not call" laws. Contrary to popular belief it is still in effect. Got a call last night wanting to save me money on my cable or satellite - I don't have either! I have been challenging them with their violation of the do-not-call- usually get hung up on quickly. Too bad I don't have caller ID, or I'd turn them in. Really easy on line. At least the political calls stopped, for now. Now if I could get at those robo calls, where there's just a recorder on the other end...

If I call 911 from my landline the EMS will show up a mile to the east of my place. The post office address and the map do not match. If i call from my cell phone they should have GPS coordinates that will get them within 50 feet.

I wish there was a law that only people can call people on a personal home phone line. Racing to answer a phone call and then having a recording play sucks.

John, I was never home, used an answering machine. I discovered if I made the answering machine message as long as possible, the robo calls hang up before it could leave a message, press 1 to lower interest rates.

Very happy I got rid of land line. Save money too.

GPS can't find a lot of places most of the time.A good number of auction sale bills are now saying,CAN NOT be LOCATED BY GPS.

I got a telemarketer today.. I asked if I could put him on hold as another call was coming in.. I was on Youtube.. I quickly punched in Innagoddadovita .. All 17 minutes and 14 seconds of it.. The guy hung up on me.. You believe that ?? Other times I speak Finnish at them.. They don't have any idea how to deal with that..

Dropped my home line a year ago---good riddance!! My wife and I have cell phones and we are registered with donotcall.
We only occasionally get scam calls and with each one I file a complaint after checking the number out.
If I don't know the number, I don't answer.
However, today I was outside and couldn't see the caller number and was expecting a call from a buddy.
I answered and a man's voice greeted me and started speaking in what sounded like five languages combined! I could only catch a word now an then but do remember something like "win one million"
After he finished a lengthy scam spill, I think he asked me if I would do something.
I said, sorry I couldn't understand what you said.
I almost laughed in the phone when he repeated the exact same message including his greeting.
He finished and I said we had lost connection could he repeat.
He hung up.
I don't usually do things like this but I was taking a break and had the time.

Those little caller ID boxes are cheap nowdays, and I also have distinctive ring on my phone for those long distance calls. Between the two, I can screen out pretty much all the calls I get. If I don't recogonize the number, and/or it rings funny, I just don't bother answering it. I never give out my cell number to anyone but the people I know.

Yes, there are substantial fines for violations of the DO NOT CALL registry, but I have learned a few things about that along the way....

The enforcing agency is the FCC. The FCC does have the power to prosecute and to levy fines against violators. HOWEVER.......
I was told by an FCC agent that there are some policy issues. First is CLEAR identification of the offender. This is necessary for a successful prosecution. Second is FCC policy. The FCC will not prosecute on a single or even a few complaints. There is a threshold number of violations that need to be reported prior to prosecution. Also, note that many violators are using VOIP. This allows them (perhaps illegally?) to hide behind fictitious numbers to show up on your caller ID - like 000-000-0000 or some such.

Another thing to bear in mind is that if you EVER buy anything over the phone that you saw on the TV, the vendor will generally sell your information to telemarketers. This makes them "business associates" of the original vendor, and thus exempts them from the DO NOT CALL registry in your case. I had this happen when I bought something that way. I had to call the vendor and threaten legal action if they did not MAKE IT STOP!!!!!!!!!

I suggest that anyone that is receiving unwanted/illegal calls to make note of the calling number. Get the name and address of the caller if possible, and file a complaint with the FCC. More complaints results in more prosecutions. Also note that "robocalls" are illegal unless they lead you to a live person to speak with.

You can use your land line number on a cell phone. The cell phone provider can move the land line number to their service.

I just keep stringing them along while saying pardon every once and a while and pressing a button on the phone every few seconds.
Eventually they want to know what the sound is or why the beeping etc. I tell them that I'm pressing 1 for English.
Works best on speaker phone in front of an audience.

I like that idea. I am going to speak Polish next time I accidently answer one of those calls.
Got one earlier in the week. Told the girl I wanted to wrap her left boob around her right ear.
They must hear everything. She said that would be an interesting thing to do.

The whole "Do not call registry" is a prime example of why government shouldn't be trusted with anything. They passed the law but didn't fund any enforcement and didn't make the fines high enough for enforcement to be self funding. It's against the law to call a number on the do not call list to solicit business but it isn't against the law to call with a fictitious or blocked number. When we lived in Wisconsin our State Senator proposed a law against political calls, I wrote him and told him why does he bother, the do not call list doesn't work and the state won't enforce it why pass more feel good legislation to remind us how utterly useless state government is and how the taxes we pay are wasted money down the drain. He informed me I hadn't filed any complaints, I informed him that since I didn't send the complaints by registered mail I don't have proof, couldn't see spending extra money for something that was going to get pitched in the trash, he told me to use the website, I informed him it had been broken for at least 4 years, he didn't reply. Also didn't answer why Time-Warner cable, one of the largest violators of the no call list had a booth at a "job Fair" that he set up even though they had no jobs to offer.

I like the ones that call you. Then ask you to hold. For the next available operator. Sad part is. I know people that would hold.

I totally agree! Another thing that is ridiculous, is that several years ago, before caller ID, I had MANY harassing calls on my Home phone.
I called the phone company and was informed that equipment would have to be placed on my home phone service to stop calls.
They sent me a form for documenting each call. I think they wanted 20 unwanted calls documented in a period of time.
Two days later I called with 20 or so documented calls.
They told me all calls were coming from same local number and would not give information as to who was calling but calls STOPPED.
My complaint is that when they came out with caller ID, I thought Good, now that will stop all these unwanted calls and give you a choice of whether to answer or not and stop these low life's from making "bomb threat calls" and such.
WRONG!!! It was set up for phone company and others to make money!!

due to the maps in google being incorrect..

the cell phones use triangulation to zero in to you location, and are good to about 300 feet or better depending on cell sites.

Hello John pa,

You can get a fax line, cheaper then a phone line.
Take your number and get a cell phone. Senior rate from Verizon for 1 line is $29.85 about $34 with taxes,

Guido

I also dumped my AT&T $35/month/local calls only landline 2 years ago. Had it since 1964. I ported the number over to a cell phone with 130 roll over minutes for $10/month using the very same AT&T service!
Now for about a year I was getting calls where there was no one on the line when I answered. Area codes are all over the place.
So now I say nothing and after 4-5 seconds, there is a few notes of music and then silence. I have no idea what "they" are looking for. I don't know who's calling till I open the phone 'cause the exterior screen is damaged, and it answers automaticly when opened. I'va gotten to let the ringing cease, then see if it's someone I know and call back.

Time to find a "new" AT&T phone at a thrift store and switch the chip over from the damaged phone.
Of course I would test the phone at the store before buying it.
