Asking a plumber

Peerless/Delta has some water valves (MADE IN USA)that have plastic handles & nylon valve core. How do these stand up? full lifetime warranty but not an item I wish to replace ever few years.

Installing a new kitchen faucet that requires a 3/8" compression ( present valve has 1/2"C ). Thanks.

NOT a Plumber, but I've had some Delta plastic valve and plastic valve assembly shower faucets over 30 years old NEVER A LEAK OR MALFUNCTION. Knock on wood. I have a Bryant Heat Pump 35 years old STILL WORKING fine, never any problems or service.

Most people prefer to run 3/8 plastic pipes from the water shut-off valves under the sink, to the faucets, both hot and cold. In your case, if you have 1/2 inch copper you will have to put a 1/2 in. to 3/8 fitting in line. Compression fitting will do.

I do not like the product called "Shark Teeth", personally. They are designed for fellas who hate soldering!

DELTA is a good brand for replacement parts "on most shelves". The swinging sink faucet "spout" is usually the first thing to start leaking. O rings, usually. I always have a spare set on hand, hanging on a nail in the sink cabinet, along with a spare cartridge for the water valves.

Use a good "plumbers putty" when installing any kitchen sink faucet assembly..or eventually water will fall into the cabinetry.

I have Peerless and Delta faucets and they are all metal handels and stainless ball on single handle valve faucets.

The valve I have now is TIP valve to 1/2C. The MOEN faucet has about 30" of 3/8" for hot/ cold water that ends up with a 3/8" female compression fitting ... so I would like to attach the MOEN direct to a valve. That is the only reason I need to switch out valves is to get the 1/2"C to 3/8"C.
Thanks.

Are you talking about the service valves under the sink?

If so, go with the 1/4 turn type, no particular brand, they hold up much better.

The old compression washer style are troublesome, the rubber washer rots away and they won't turn off.

I used the chrome sweat shutoff valves on the kitchen faucet. They fit 1/2 inch copper pipe
and have the 3/8 compression fitting. I used the flex steel braided hoses for water lines to the faucet. When there were no repair kits available from Delta they sent me a new faucet. Before I installed the shutoff valves I had to shutoff the whole house. Hal

I've had good luck with Delta and parts. In one house the Delta faucet started leaking, we called Delta and they informed us it wasn't a life time guarantee faucet but sent us a free kit anyway. 10 years later I was in another house and the shower started to leak, I'd forgotten about the Delta warranty. I found the Delta part number on line and was trying to get a kit, no one had them. Went into Home Depot and asked about their generic cartridge for it, they guy says wait here, goes crawling in behind one of the shelves and comes out with a repair kit. He explains it's a lifetime faucet and every time the Delta rep comes in I hit him up for a few repair kits, oh and here's a slip so they don't hassle you at the door. There not my favorite faucet but they do seem to stand behind them.

I have had good results with Delta faucets. Once we got anther higher price brand with supposedly lifetime ceramic valve parts for the kitchen sink.

It quit one morning when we were expecting company. Wife said she had to have the faucet working. The fancy faucet was no longer made, the store(Home Depot) gave me a Delta for a replacement. After 2 trips to town 20 miles away and one trip to a hardware store 9 miles away, I crawled out from under the sink just as our guests were arriving. The Delta faucet has lasted for years since then with one kit put in it.

One trick for the Delta. Get a replacement Brass ball instead of the plastic one. Mileage may vary, some replacements are like bearings on balers, some last, some don't.

First I've heard of anyone not liking the Sharkbite fittings. The only complaints I've ever heard about are price.

Thing is Sharkbites are 100% reliable, and most people's soldering skills are not.

Plus you're trying to solder wet pipes at odd angles in confined spaces with flammable materials all around. It's a recipe for leaks and singed armhairs, where a Sharkbite is click-click-done.

BULLSxxx

tried them one time when replacing a hot water tank. would not bite down and blew apart this on 3/4 copper. spent way too much time messing with them. cut all parts out. 2 short pieces of 3/4 copper, 4 couplings, torch and solder done way faster. no leaks.
SHOULD HAVE SOLDERED IT FROM THE BEGINING

NO SHARKBITES FOR ME

"Shark bite" type of fittings will not work if the end of the copper has solder on it, there should be no burrs and it will not usually work on roll copper tubing. Will only work on Pex, CPVC, Copper and CTS.
Inserts MUST be used if on PEX.

The valve your talking about is typically installed new and never touched again till the faucet fails. Under those conditions and with decent quality water they're fine.

In our area the water is very hard and has a high chlorine/chlorimine content. The plastic valves don't hold up well. I use an all brass ball valve made by Brasscraft. Very good quality. As a plumbing contractor its in my best interest to use the best quality components I can buy. Keeps my customers happy and my warranty calls to a minimum.

I am not a professional plumber, however I have been in the building maintenance work for the last 14 years since retiring from the USAF. I used my first Shark-bite fitting some 10 years ago and it is still in place and has never leaked a drop of water. I use them all the time, much quicker when you are in a time crunch as it always is in the healthcare business. I always prep the line just as if I were going to solder it. I will say I have had the pros tell me they will never use them. Just my two cents.
