another scam

got a call yesterday from the electric company, caller id showed commm ed as the caller. caller stated that our electric bill was way overdue and the power would be shut off later in the day. however if we paid by credit card now it would not be shut off. had the paid bill in hand and advised the caller we were paid in full. they hung up. geez the nerve of some people.

In addition, you cannot rely on caller id. People can use computer systems to make calls and program in whatever number they want as the originating number. The caller id displays the name associated with that number.

I had this the other week as well. They even left a voice mail with a call back number. Very pleasant sounding lady just reminding me my bill was overdue and I could pay via credit card. Just like you, I had just paid this months bill in full a few nights before.

another scam we get calls on is a robo call for an important software update to our credit card machine, and a number to call. i called our credit card company and they said it was a scam.

I have got calls that the called ID said was my
phone calling my phone.I have pretty much stopped
answering the phone unless I recognize the number,
if it is for me they will leave a message.

Bingo.

I have been soing the same thing and not answering the phone for the past 4 months.

I am tired of picking up the receiver after just 2 rings to find no-one there. GRR..GRR

I" just gota call from some electric co. They said "we have just reviewed your electric bill and YOU are do a sizeable refund and WE would like to put the refund back into YOUR checking account". I said, "do not mess around and remove me from your lists".

I hung up! Sounded like the call originated from New Delhi!

They are reading last months bill somehow. I do have a credit with my elect. co because sometimes , being seasonal, I send in extra payments during my business season. And,over the WINTER months, I do not have to pay any utility bills.

How do they get hold of the records to start with.????????????????

I don't have caller ID, I guess I am a bit too tight.

Anyway, when I answer the phone, I never-ever say Hello. I typically say "Greetings" The computer is looking for "Hello" meaning you are English speaking and available.

If after saying "Greetings" I don't get a reply, I then ask "Yes?". If nothing I then say Bueno or Good Morning in a variety of languages.

The caller ID comes up on my TV screen. if I don't recognize the number they can leave a message. Most of the time they don't.

When I know a call is a junk call, I answer the phone in Japanese, and continue to speak Japanese.

It drives them nuts.

I was in my afternoon nap phase. And, I think I just got an elect. co from HAOI. SHE-SHE means "THANK YOU" in Chinese. I posted wrong on the 9N program.

I was getting robo calls where the first thing after you answer is Hi how are you? Then you say something pleasant and then they say "That's nice!" One day I was in the shop under a dump truck and the phone rang with that type of call and when they said How are you? I answered "Horses##t and they came back with "That's nice" I hung up and had a good laugh!
