Millenicom update

I still haven't heard anything from Verizon since being notified by Millenicom that Verizon has taken over their accounts. But I did find some info at the site below. It seems former customers are being offered the 20 GB plan for 99.99 PLUS TAXES AND FEES (so more like $110/month). And some customers are being offered a $10/month discount if they sign a one year contract. It looks like Verizon will shut off service on 11/8 if you don't sign up for a plan.

Anyone heard anything from Verizon?
Millenicom update

Yes, I got a call from them yesterday, here in northern Michigan. Left a message on my phone and said I must call 800-233-8974 to discuss plan options or my service will be cut off on November 8.

Have you found any alternative plans that are portable? I live in two different houses in northern Michigan and need something with the portability that our Millenicom system has. We only need 10GB a month but Millenicom forced us to take 20GB not too long ago. So far, I can't find any good alternatives. I was on hold for an hour with the Verizon # I was given and then got fed up and hung up. So far, I've gotten nowhere.

My experience has been with AT&T, Virgin Mobile and Millenicom. AT&T gave good service but the 5GB cap was a bit tight. Virgin (runs on Sprint) had lousy service at our home in Oakland County but decent enough in Pinellas County, Florida. Right now I'll probably try to sign up for one of Verizon's standard plans, go with an 8 or 10 GB cap.

I know where I am in northern Michigan, Virgin Mobil wireless is useless. We've been using our Millenicom MiFi for all our home computers. Laptops and desktops. Verizon based system and it's worked just about anywhere we've gone. We use it when we travel or camp or move between houses in MI and NY. I.e. we have no "mobile devices", "Smart Phones", etc. We need 10 GB a month. I've yet to find anyone else who sells a plan like Millenicom has or had. Still trying to get info from Verizon but so far - it's been near impossible.

I spent hours either on hold or talking to the wrong people. Seems Verizon had this thing dumped on their laps. I don't think Millenicom did anything to make any sort of transition easy.

End of story . . got a new Verizon plan and a new improved MiFi jetpack. Now have a plan with 10 GB per month for $80. We never wanted the 20 GB that Millenicom pretty much forced on us. So we will now be paying $10 less per month instead of more. Pretty good deal. I'm surprised and it's with a two-year contract. So I guess no surprises for two years, anyway.

Interesting. That's pretty much the route I would like to go. I still haven't heard from Verizon, so I'll give it a few more days before I call.

There are two sides to every story. Verizon seems ill-prepared to take on the Millenicom contracts, while on the other hand Millenicom still lists 4G LTE service on its website.

Worst part was finding someone at Verizon who knew what the heck was going on. Once I got the right person -it took ten minutes and I was all signed up. They had me pull the SIM card out of my Jetpack and decided I was good to go with Verizon. But . . they could not energize it until Millenicom officially ended my service. To avoid any more screw-ups - I spent an extra $45 and got signed up with a new style Jetpack. The new one has a digital screen that keeps track of usage during the month so you don't have to worry about going over the limit. So we now have two Jetpacks and two Internet systems - until November 8 when the Millenicom account dies. After that, I figure I've got a spare in case something ever goes wrong. One phone call and it can be energized if needed.
By the way, they have bigger plans then the 10 GB I got. I specifically asked for a 10 GB plan.

Got my new system today. New and improved Verizon MiFi Jetpack and 10 GB per month for $80. I'm using it right now. 2 year contract so I know I'm good for at least two years. No more month-to-month like with Millenicom. New Jetpack has a 25% bigger battery, digital screen that tells out our usage status, etc.
