I have an in the wall 1500watt 220 V bathroom heater. One of the wires broke ( not one to the elements)and I need to replace it. Will THHN wire do or what do I need and where do I get it. I only need 1 foot.

Thanks for help anyone & everyone.

For single enclosed interior (NOT wet or damp locations, I am guessing that's your application, if not please advise) conductors, I usually specified THHN and that should work fine. If it was a wet or damp location, I often specified THWN, although THHN may still suffice.

I would match the gauge to that of the other wires in the circuit. Of course, 1500 watts at 220 volts corresponds to only around 7 amps, yet sometimes larger gauge wire is used simply for mechanical strength or uniformity, which is why I said Id match the wire gauge to that which you're replacing. Similar, if the other is stranded or solid Id use the same for your replacement. It should be available in small rolls or by the foot at some of the big box stores (Lowes, Home Depot, Menards) and for sure electrical supply houses, they (electrical shop) may just give you a piece if that's all you need.

Usually Electrical or Legal Questions draw the most opinions and the same may or may not hold true here, so see how many other gents agree or disagree that THHN will suffice for single enclosed conductors for interior use in dry locations???? We may be surprised!!!! I may be right or I may be dead wrong lol I been away from the trade too long and perhaps things have changed so no warranty......Listen to what the more current still practicing professional electricians have to say (instead of Billy Bob and Bubba lol)

PS you ONLY asked about THHN so that's all I addressed, there are obviously other wires and insulation types and classes that would work.

hat temperatures are the wires in that area of the heater exposed to?

John T, You cannot get just THHN or THWN, they are the same wire. The difference is how they are used. Just take a look at the printing on the wire.

You are not the first engineer not to realize that.

Thanks Dusty Man, told ya its been a while lol. I could have sworn in the 80's I called for THWN in wet or damp locations and THHN in regular BUT THATS WHY I advised him to talk to a more current professional electrician THANKS AGAIN.

Hey if you're in Zephyrhills this winter we definitely have to meet up. I have built an Electrical Exhibit and will be an Exhibitor at both Flywheelers and staying there 7 to 10 days each show.

Lowes has a rack of wire . You need a store employee to use a key to make the rack spin . They will cut you 1 foot. If you see an electricians van any guy should cut you a few feet off a roll and give it to you.

Headed for Zephyrhills sometime after Dec. 1.
