Using GPS to measure acreage

Any suggestions for a good accurate GPS unit to measure fields?
I found an interesting acreage calculator online using Google maps, but it is just an educated guess when marking points on a map (treelines, shadows, etc.).

They work pretty good, takes a while to remember all the menu steps. ;)

You want more of a sports, hunting/camping type, rather than a car type of GPS. Look in a big sports store or such. Many offer the acreage calculator just look for that feature.

Web Soil Survey has a decent map based planimeter. As others have said for GPS. Just remember the handheld ones are only so good for accuracy.

I have a Garmin GPSmap 60CS and 62 something. Both will measure acreage. One day i tested this way, I found on map a good square one mile. Section. Section line property line is in the middle of road unless road got moved.Drive arond test section of 640 acres in clockwise direction with gps near drivers window or near center of road. When I got around section back to start point it displayed right at 640 acres. Appears to be fairly accurate. Also have used an atv. To drive perimeter of a field worked good

My Garmin dog tracking system has that feature. I use it for food plots so I don't know the accuracy, but the unit itself as far as distance is pretty good.

I use a Garmin etrex 20. It seems reasonably accurate to me. The only thing I don't like is that I can't save the map to produce a paper map with the acreage on it... but for quick an d dirty, this works.
