stopping rust

Have a mid 70's corvette stored in barn what is best to paint on frame to stop the rust? I am looking for something that I can just brush on and leave it no primer or paint ?

I haven't tried this but a car-guy once told me about putting a large shallow pan filled with fuel oil under the car. The vapor flashing off will prevent rust.

Spray the undercarriage with motor oil....Yep motor oil. An old timer that worked with a friend of mine many years ago used to take the 4 quarts of oil from every oil change and put it in a cup sprayer and coat the under side of his car......Lasted for many many years I was told.

I use fluid film,it comes in spray cans, gallons or 5 gallon containers...and you can also brush it on. Part stores sell it and rural king also...I just bought 5 gallons and undercoated my chevy truck and our 06 impala..used 3 gallon on truck and 1 gallon on car...sprayed with fluid film pro gun 1 quart at a time...it's a mess but worth it to me.

Spray the underside of the car at each oil change? Wow.

That is what he said..........Seems like overkill, but if you are a car nut and like laying under a car and spraying motor oil.......Come to my house and spray mine too.

That's what you have to do if you use motor oil, because it doesn't last.

Of course if you get under your car every 3 months, hose it down, and spray it with ANYTHING, it will last longer than if you do nothing... Any sort of non-corrosive liquid, grease, oil, paint, even nacho cheese, would preserve your car's undercarriage longer than nothing.

Most people do nothing.

I'll Third the POR-15, just make sure if you use it, do not get it on anything you do not want black, forever.... That stuff will not come off.

Parafin wax , the sort that cheap candles are made of , melted in kerosene and sprayed . Kero evaporates and leaves a film of water repellent wax behind that seems to last forever . Craft and hobby shops sell it in large blocks for a reasonable cost .

I run a vehicle up on a deck-over trailer ramp, hook log chain from ramp to trailer hitch for safety, and spray almost a quart of warm 15w40 on frame and underbody with a paint spray gun each fall. Works good so far.

A mid 70's Corvette would be worth taking to an under-coater to get it done right. That would be a Ziebart dealer around here.
