OK out there what the what are these?? On the farm I was raised on we had houlstens and a jersey and one brown swiss. Lots of color cmbinations. Now out by Geteysburg,PA and up by Pennington,nj I see these critters. Now I have seen Hamshire pigs too but what kind of heffers are these? Maybe they are portable bill boards like those "artist" painted cows out and around some fancy towns.

I pass by a farm lot with several of those in it, but there is one in there with black sides, and white on the backbone, that is, lengthwise!

My wife's distant cousin raised Belted Galloways. I think he said they were a British breed.

Would that one be on Centerville Road north of Centerville Indiana? I see one there all the time.

if you send any of those to the stockyard you will be very displeased with your check. Around here you will be lucky to get half price of any solid color or hereford feeder.

pets basically

Sounds like some of you are confusing two breeds of cows.

Dutch Belted is the original belted cow. It is considered a dairy breed from the Netherlands.
It makes a good homestead cow because it can produce milk better from grass than other traditional dairy cows.

The Belted Galloway is a beef cow from Scotland. It is thought to be a cross between the Galloway and the Dutch Belted to increase milk production.

I declare Dick, I thought I was going to get to say that, then I came to your reply. Yeah, they are called "Oreo cows" because when you see one you know there is milk, so you're supposed to think, "Got Cookies?"

Thanks for the replies.. Just had never seen these before. The first time you see them they SURE make you take a second look! Still think they would make a great bill board.

We had a few in the herd yrs. ago and the buyers did not want them , dont know why . They would stay in good shape all winter on poor feed . They would go out and dig in the snow and graze under brier bushes while the other cows would stand and stare at the gate waiting for hay to appear .
