Security system

I am planning to put up a camera security system in my pole barn. There is no internet available. What would any of you recommend? I know there are 4 camera systems available for a few hundred dollars.

There are basically 2 types of camera systems. The first type has coax and power feed going back to a central box, the second uses a network connection with power. The coax cameras are much cheaper.

You only need an Internet connection if you want to view remotely.

Basicly, the higher the number of pixels, the clearer the picture, the better chance you have of identifying and prosecuting the thief. We have a HD system at 1080 pixel. You can read license #'s at 70ft. You can clearly see faces.
Yes, higher pixels cost more money. You get what you pay. Ask yourself: do you want to see blurry shadows or clear pictures?

I don't have a camera. One of the reasons is low light in pole barn. Neighbor has a 4 camera system. During the day his monitor in living room works great, at night a blur.

So, if I were to get a camera, I would make sure it can identify a person in almost no light. A plate # only tells the cops what car was used, not the person driving the car, so good luck getting some arrested with a #. The owner of the car will say someone sold my car.

My second concern would be back up power. I would want a system with battery back up. How hard would it be for someone to turn the power off to your house or barn? Cut the tag on meter base and pull the meter.

Have you thought about using a couple game cameras? I'm putting up a new PB in an area where wiring and electrical will be difficult. That's what I'm leaning toward. No live coverage, but might give the cops some identifiable pix.

I have Sony 80 LED cameras that give a clear picture at night and in bad weather. They are coaxial so the signal is better than wireless.

I'm just installing one now after having a problem at my place.

Before buying anything do some research & plan on spending some $$ for a good system. The better system more $$. Do not buy from box stores (very cheap, but not too good!) For some good reading on this subject google "Backstreet Surveilance" They sell systems but there are others!

As far as Game cameras I found a game camera at Cabelas that takes 8 AA batteries but is still working after 3 months & gives 8MP pics. It's called Black Infrared, doesn't show any flash at all, it's invisible at night! Detection range is 85' too, more than most!
It gives video also but I like the pictures it gives!

Nice to know. How many hours of storage do you have? How many cameras? Where did you get it? Any back up power?

My one system is 4 camera system and hold 30 day storage with battery backup. Got the system from and installed by a local security company.

depending on the recording speed and number of trips i have around 30 days recording, its a 4 camera system with no battery backup came with a dvr internet ready and was about $1300
Have every door covered by a camera and then one covering the barn--since the place is 200 hundred miles from me i can check it from any where by internet.

A few years ago, the Successful Farming magazine had a comparison of several of the top brands. Ag Cam was one of the best but I don't know what all competitors it was compared to. You would be spending over $1000 for the Ag Cam package, and the price goes up with additional cameras, antennaes, etc.
The cheap ones won't stand up to the weather over time.

If you do, here are some video tips:

I have one made by Q See, and a friend of mine just bought one from Home Depot online only made by Defender, it was on sale, around $300.00 came with 4 cameras and can run up to 8 cameras, also had a one terrabyte hard drive, will store over a month of video. I am looking to replace my system with one like his.

Read the review on q-see. They are awful. I have a Zmodo fro Flea Bay. Works great I can even see it on my phone. Had it for 3 years now.
