Shelves in a grain bin

I have an 18 foot bin in the yard I would like to use for parts/tool storage. As usual my shop is getting smaller all the time. Anybody have ideas for being able to maximize the useful space and keep things somewhat organised?

If you made the shelves the rite size - You could use plastic milk cartons to hold a lot of things. I Put a tag on the side with wire ties so I can find it later.

Sort of depends what you want to store there. I thought of shelves around the walls, but what about center space? Or center aisle with rows of shelves to each side? Maybe wall shelves with long steel rack in center, some shelves on either side of rack? One heck of a big Lazy Susan?

Get six foot metal shelving. The kind that stands by itself. Heck, you could build wooden ones. Put one end of the shelf along the outer wall of the bin and the have the shelf run toward the center of the bin. Put up several - it would look like spokes on a wagon wheel from above. The wall ends would be farther apart than the inside edges. You can have more space along the bin walls to put larger items.

You can build some useful wooden free standing shelves pretty easily using 2x4's for the frames and 3/4 inch lumber or thinner plywood for the shelves. A low back stop on the rear of the shelves reduces the number of things pushed off the back side of the shelves. Vary the height and spacing of the shelves for different applications. Make some shelves two feet deep and some 2 1/2 or 3 feet deep. Assemble them with wood screws so they are strong but can still be disassembled and moved out in the future. That could be a good winter project after some good lighting is installed.

A center table/island workbench with an electrical drop might be handy for dis-assembly, cleaning, sorting, etc. The bin door might be small for daily use, can you remove some wall panels to make a temporary bigger door?
