onan generator

You guys will know this stuff--My sister has a motorhome with an onan generator. She uses this motorhome to pull her small tractor to a few events each year. Anyway the generator runs great but is not powering the appliances. They all work when it is plugged into shore power. I've check the two "breakers" on the front of the generator and they were in the "on" position. Flipped them a number of times and nothing changed. Is there another breaker or reset that I should be looking for?

Some Onans have a small single handle breaker half way hidden there on the side NOT readily visible just looking at the front of the genny.

I assume the RV power cord is plugged into the gennys output 30 amp receptacle box, most of which are hidden away in the box where the cord is stored?????????? Unless it has that auto changeover relay (switches power from genny to park power) which I never liked. If it has that you need to find it. If theres no on board genny output receptacle box where the power cord plugs in, it must have an auto changeover relay somewhere.

What John T posted is correct. But to add to that. Really need to know what Onan she has. While most will not run unless producing power. Some Onan's will run with no AC output. I agree with John. Never did like the automatic system. Always having problems.

Onan tech since 1980.

If I recall correctly you're the one who helped me with an Onan problem once before, stay around because I may need your expertise again !!!

I still prefer the older two cylinder 1800 RPM units then the loud single cylinder screaming 3600 RPM so called "Microquiet" YEAH RIGHT LOL They are bad for that expensive sealed in epoxy "Control Board" to go out grrrrrrrrrrr My buddy had the coil go bad in his which he didnt discover until AFTER he already replaced that expensive board. ALSO unlike the older carbs which had the adjustable power jet in the bowls bottom center, theres no adjustments on my Microquiet grrrrrrrrrr THATS PROGRESS I RECKON, Thanks EPA

I have stopped working on the Microdisasters. Except for a few select friends. To me they are cheaply made and a PIA to work on.You just about have to pull them apart to change anything.

Have you (or anyone) tried plugging a drill into the gen and spinning it backwards? Surprising how often that works.
