we now live on the nc coast and have sand spurs in our lawn. does anyone know how to get rid of them If I round up them it leaves a brown spot in the lawn. weed-b-gone will not kill it as it is a type of grass. I have been puling them up by hand but you will miss some and if not careful get stuck by them.

Frequent mowing and spot herbicide for most pesky plants- a local pest likely has some specific treatment available known in area- check the local garden supply places or local landscapers. Teasing Alert!. Could fence in the yard and get a couple Shetland sheep for weed and feed. Get tiller out, churn up whole yard and plant White Dutch clover and forget about mowing more than twice a year. Or till and plant Winter Wheat now with overseed clover in spring. Then get water bucket for the sheep. RN

Similar to our ' Three J's ' they are called that because when you step on one with bare feet you often yell out J...., J.... , J.....

When small the easiest way to kill them is with an electric jug of boiling water . Pour about a half a coffee mug onto the roots , takes about two days to wilt and die . No residual effect and surrounding grass moves in to cover the gap fairly quickly .

A product called Amaze. Put on in February and no more sand burrs, Again the next Feb. no more burrs.
Two years and they are gone.

2-4-D should kill them without killing your grass. Now is a great time to spray your yard. The weeds will take the 2-4-D into the roots preparing for the dormant winter season.

Have your ground analyzed and they will tell you how much lime the ground needs. Sand burrs don't like sweet ground.
