Wood sealer for outdoor table project

I cut some old orange trees down earlier this year and saved one of the truck pieces. Wanted to use it for the base for a table out on my deck. Was wondering what the best thing to use to seal it with. I've used polyurethane before but it doesn't hold up very long here in Florida. I have some old 2x6 rough cut Cypress for the top and plan on building a plate steel base for the bottom to give it a little more width and to be able to level it. Any ideas on what to use on it??

If you try to seal it, there is no way you will keep the water out of all the holes in trunk. So there will be no good way for the water trapped under the treatment to dry out. I wouldn't use anything. I would try to make a water proof top to keep elements from getting to it. Look at how long it has lasted with nothing.
