HF circular saw sharpener

Has anyone used a HF sharpener for circular saw blades? It seems rather crude in the adjustmment area. Can it be "improved" in the home shop?

Thanks

I bought one. It would sharpen one side of the tooth but never could get it set up to sharpen the other side. Donated it to Goodwill to get rid of it. It was more aggravation than it was worth.

I sharpen carbide blades with my rotary tool and a small cutoff wheel. I could do a better job than the pro's that used to sharpen my blades.

For carbide teeth on the saw blade, use grinder as described above.

For regular steel saw blades, set blade on porch steps of some other strong flat surface. Hang the edge of the blade slightly over the side. Hold down with your foot. Sharpen teeth with a flat file. To set the angle of the teeth, if needed, put blade over the edge of a thick piece of lumber with just the tip of a tooth over the edge, hit the tip with a small punch enough to drive the tip over enough to get get the teeth set. Don't overdo the set angle.

I have one. Yes it's crude. There is an adjustment to tighten up the side. I love mine. I also love the old school 10 inch metal moly steel saw blades, no carbide teeth. Dewalt sells them for around $10. I like the old school blades because they are very thin, require less hp from table saw, and extremely easy to sharpen.

As for the crude adjustments. I use a sharpie, paint the saw tooth and adjust the sharpner to remove all the sharpie. Once I get the angles right, it very easy. I don't care about the adjustments being calibrated. I just set up the match the teeth. I think it well worth it.

I have one and use it occasionally, but not allot. It may not be the best, but for my purpose, it works fine. I have sharpened both sides of all types of blades with no problems. Once I took a little time to understand the basics of how it works and set it up correctly, it did a great job. A little reading up on basic saw sharpening techniques would be a huge help.
