Brad: Looks like JF did a very nice job! Learning the basics on a lathe is simple, and it will open up huge new worlds for you, particularly if, like many here, you have older equipment where it's not as easy as walking into a parts store and buying what you need. Even the barest of bare-bones stuff like turning down shafts, facing ends, drilling holes in round stock, and boring holes larger will enable you to do things that are difficult or impossible without a lathe. One of the cheap China 7x12 lathes can be had for a few hundred dollars and is not only an excellent starting place but for many people is all the lathe you need. Just used mine today for one of those silly little things that nonetheless would be very difficult to do with other tools--I had a brush that I wanted to fit on my Shop-Vac that didn't have the correct end to fit it, so I turned up an adapter out of PVC. Took a couple measurements, figured the taper from those, and bored it out, then turned the other end down to fit the brush. Took 15 minutes, worked perfectly, my little lathe came in handy once again, and I didn't even have to dust off my larger ones! Of course, you can spend as much as your wallet will bear on a lathe, and becoming expert in its use is a many-year endeavor, but even small, cheap, old and simple is a great start, and very satisfying to use.

MrPete222 on youtube, also goes by tubalcain. By watching his videos, you'll learn enough to be able to make stuff too.
That is a nice looking lathe in the pics above.

Very Nice!!

I started out learning to run a lathe in high school shop class. This was after I learned what it was called when I was a kid sweeping the floor at the shop my dad used to run.

Lots of hours watching the spindle turn and I still love the machine.

You did a wonderful job and you should be very proud.
