Copelametic (Copeland) compressor

I was given what looks like an old dental air compressor. Basically a pancake with a small Copelametic pump. I want to keep it because it looks very heavy duty, but I need to do a little maintanace on it as it was run without an air filter and an oil fill plug. Dirt got in the crank and head.. Before I dig in, does anyone know anything about these pumps? What kind of oil do they take, anything special? Can they pump up to 100 psi? And how was the unloader set up? Appreciate any info.

Can you get the model and s/N off the copeland=o=matic pump?

I use the Copeland product every day in my ref. business.
John,PA PS: The older equipment used mineral oil in the system. I think you have an air dryer system.

It says HAT4-0033-IAA for model, 66G-00208 for s/n.

5 amps on 115 volts

I know next to nothing about it. Could have been an R12 compressor in it's previous life. But whatever it started out as, if was definitely converted to compress air.

Thanks.

John, I'm looking a little closer at it now. The tag has a refrigerant box on it, but it was left blank. The year on the tank is 1968.

You have 1/3 HP extra low temp. R12 compressor.
Pumps 123 Cubic feet/hour @1750 RPM.
Holds 24 oz. of mineral oil.
Compressor should pump over 100 psi. but will overheat easily. It is not designed to pump air.
When used as a refrigeration pump the returning refrigerant cools it.
Serial# shows it to be a 1966 model.
Had to dig out a old manual to find this information.

Thanks a lot! They sure used to build them, you can make two 3 hp pumps out of it today. Pump and motor weigh at least 60 lbs.

You will definately need some sort of fan blowing air over the compressor shell to keep the windings cool.

Some compressors were water cooled. There is a 1/2 in. copper tube that is imbedded around the shell of the compressor motor section.

HTH John,PA
