Identify this tool??

Anyone know what this tool is? Made by Stearns & Co in Syracuse NY. One leg has a groove and the other a tounge.

For spreading wood flooring boards??

Used a tool similar to that one once. Looks like a tool to move decking boards. The U shaped end would go over the upright deck support boards. Then you could pry the back side to move the deck boards close together if one was bowed.
