Another Yale Hoist ? - parts availability ?

So I found another hoist, a Yale & Towne, lever type, "Yale & Towne Pull Lift PL46C" 3 ton model, but it seems there may be a problem, seems to ratchet ok, but I think the load brake is not working. Something is awry. Not sure if the seller will take it back, for the money its not worth the hassle, but comparable new models cost significantly more, like over $1000+. So off to Harbor Freight I go for one that works, and is much less costly, so I can get my darned tractor un-stuck, or at least the mower away from it! I think given its dried out and its not in suction and just touching the differential, should work fine.

The below link shows must be a newer series, but it does look identical, the gear case on it, appears to be the same, I guess the only difference is the block whereas the chain passes through and is pinned off on the case, 2 part line is it ?

Are these serviceable, can you get parts and repair these? I'm well aware of safety aspects of it, next option once I know if it's a boat anchor is, contact the seller, tell him it was a dud, see if he what he does, nice people, gave me half a dozen fresh eggs, accepted my lower offer on it. It was advertised as a working unit. Probably the first time I've been burned on a CL buy, next time hang the unit and demonstrate it, though it did ratchet fine, problem is, when you hang it, you can get it to pull, but on the reverse stroke the chain goes back to the original position, so essentially it has not moved, something needs to hold it while you ratchet back to the next pull stroke.

I did notice 2 check valve like balls, spring loaded on the projections of the case, I assume those are for oil or lube and know you don't want any of that on the load brake, there may even be one on the block, looks mashed or peened, saw a small circle on it.

Any advise greatly appreciated and thanks for the post on 6-14 from "Charles (in GA)" providing the links to the current manufacturer or owner "Columbus McKinnon Corp" after looking its where I found the below manual that looks identical.

Well the below sheds a little light on these not sure if they are the same, but maybe there are some common parts, I see the brake is adjustable via the nut, sort of answering my own question here, but in case anyone else has one of these here's one link that may help.

I have 1 like that except mine has a chain like a motorcycle. I bought mine at a farm sale for $10. Mine didn't work either but I figured for $10 what the heck. When I got it home I took it apart and mine had grease on the disc brake inside I wiped it off with a rag then sprayed starting fluid on brake and cleaned it real good. Put it back together works like a million dollars. I pulled a tree stump out by using a 6 ft pipe on the handle. Don't know how much it will pull.

That's what I was thinking, if it's relatively easy to work on, parts can be had or its just like you said, they are darned expensive new, of the same or current manufacture that is not H-F or china made, which is a lot less expensive, with good reason I am sure !

I saw there are the roller chain type and the link chain type, I did try to tighten the load brake nut, but to no avail, I'll have to pull the cover and see what is going on in there. Be awesome if they are serviceable, Yale-Towne does go back a long ways, not sure the age of this one.
