I got it cheap at the goodwill($10). it will run for a little while but then shuts off. smokes real bad, like to much oil in the gas. I do not know what ratio gas to oil it needs, anyone know? right now I have some chain saw gas in it, 50 to 1 ratio for saw. I have not had it long enough to really see much about it. the people said it ran at the goodwill. Thanks for any and all advice.

Frank

The 50:1 oil is correct. Be sure the choke is opening properly, air filter is clean, and try leaning out the carb adjustments.

I will be checking on it this evening. is there any way to remove the caps from the carburetor low and high adjustments? I feel like they put to much oil in it at goodwill and it will have to be burnt out.

Hello wfw,

Empty the fuel tank out. Fill it with a fresh mix. Check the exhaust screen. Check the carb, make sure it is tight. Clean the screen and check the carb passages as well. Check the lines and check fuel filter by blowing in it towards the fuel tank. Even at 40 to 1 it should not smoke. Use 89 octane gas or better. Usually the plugged adjustments are not the problem. Also check the plug gap. Gap it at least .030. Make sure the air filter is clean.
Check the head and make sure it is tight.
I think I'll stop here

Guido.

The limiter caps can be removed, but I'd do what Guido suggests first.

Guido is a genius! I know because his post is almost word for word what I wudda wrote, only it's schpelt more bedder.

Hello Bret4207,

It takes one to recognize one! HA!HA!
Having worked on Diesel engines, those little rascals can be a challenge at time. I guess he has enough hint to get started He! Oh yea! Thank you spell check.....................

Guido.

worked on it a little last night. the fuel tank was dry when I got it so it has fresh non ethanol gas (50:1 ratio). cleaned air filter. it will now run until I cut it off, still smokes and does not run very fast. will do more to it later per Guido's list.
