I am looking at a Hobart gas portable welder. IT is an online auction. Just found out about it tonight. I will not have time to go look at it before it goes to auction. The welder is not that far from me. My youngest son is getting into welding real heavy. I thought this might be a good welder for him to start with as a portable.

It is FORD gas powered. It is 300 AMP, 40 volt, 100 duty cycle, 1800 RPM.

The model starts out with CR then either 304 or 314, or ???

I can't make out the rest of the model. It appears to be an older welder but in good shape. The fellow that has it knows nothing about it other than it worked when it was stored by his Grand Dad. That was 5-6 years ago.

I have used older Hobart portable welders they ran a pretty smooth arc.

sure looks like original paint, go to weldingweb forum and look under the hobart section, have used them before and if price was decent i would be all over it

I just "sold" a Miller Trailblazer 55D in pristine condition with 1325 hours (buyer is to pick it up in the morning). It is rated 400A at 100% duty cycle but folks that I've talked to tell me that it will run 500A at 100% duty cycle.

Second job out of HS they had a Hobart like that one. Powered by a Ford 6 cylinder engine. Only problems we had was vapor lock on hot days when using higher amp settings. They are a (very!) slight step down in smoothness from a Lincoln pipeliner, probably not even noticeable for anyone who doesn"t weld for a living.

I ran one for many years. mine had 6 cyl Chrysler however. ran everything from 3/32 6011 to 1/4 7024 great. after about 7000 hrs I decided I needed a newer machine. I traded it in on hobarts newest and greatest. had air cooled diesel engine, and was a AC machine that had a printed circuit board that converted it to DC or something. after a few months I looked up the guy that bought my old machine and traded machines with him. I'm retired now and all I have is my original SA 200. it's all I need for me and the neighbors. if you have a chance to look at the welder, look at the brush holders. I had to replace mine 2 times in 7000 hours.
