Garage Radio

I had a garage built a few years ago and it has 16 Double fluorescent tube fixtures installed because light is good!
The down side is ballast noise from these fixtures is bad!
My wife had a technician come out and install an antenna that is basically a cable tv type system to cut out the noise!
Now I need to find an am/fm/cd player that has an auxiliary antenna jack that is like a cable tv connection!
Do any of you guys and gals know who manufactures such a radio and where can I purchase it at?
Thanks in advance for any replies!

I get in a lot of buildings that have the new high intensity lights in them. Almost everyone has copper wire wrapped around the radio antenna and then to the outside antenna.

If you have an unused battery charger, an old car radio works well.

If you can't find anything, look for any old stereo receiver, they all have antenna inputs. Older lower end stereo systems with speakers sell cheap on Craig's List. DVD players will also play music CDs, they can be plugged into a receiver through either the tape, auxiliary or phonograph inputs.

Now-a-days many people stream radio and TV through a computer.

Listen to the internet streamed version of your favorite local station on an older "puter dedicated to the task.

PRESTO! NO interference to "off air" channels from the so-called new "improved" fluorescents.

I use a $100 computer like Bob says no static and I can get stations from all over the world tho I can't understand them so I stick with U.S. Mostly talk radio in the morning and Country in the afternoon.

many times the noise is from the ac power side.

find a radio that also runs on DC as well as an AC input. IE. takes batteries, or from a car.

feed it it's dc it wants and see if the noise is gone. if so.. rig up a dc power supply with lots of flitering.. IE.. USe a PI fitler arangement with a good choke and 2 large value capacitors, plus 2 ceramic disc capacitors accross the dc input and output.

for that cable tv antenna.. it has center conductor and a ground sheath. make ground sheath common to radio power supply ground, and center conductor to antenna lead.

ok my pictures did not post http://www.best-electronics-ca.com/2600_help.htm about half way down the page Atari OEM TV Switch box will work http://www.prosatellitesupply.com/accessories.html search Matching Transformers for Older Model Television Sets bottom of the page.

I keep a spare radio in the shop, and from time to time I use 560am in my service van. As I go back and forth on service calls, I can hear leaking transformers on the utility lines. On the 3 phase systems, most times I can detect a transformer starting to wear out on the pole.

As I pass older garages, I can even detect those older flourscent fixtures. Eventually the light bulbs will be obsolete.

I use radio out of old stereos and mount speakers on end walls of steel building.I also mount the antenna that came with stereo on end wall. I use halogen light so no noise from lighting.

They used to be called GE Super Radio, but now they are RCA Super Radio. Google them. They are only about $50 and have super reception with their own antenna and have a place on the back to wire-in an external antenna. They also have a big speaker and can fill your shop with sound.

I've had a couple of these for years and they are GREAT!!!!

OTOH - you can yard sale shop like I did and stumble across a Zenith Transoceanic Radio... ;-)

Good luck,
Bill

This is the only way I found to get AM to work in my shop. Am will not play on a car when I pull it into my shop.
Car radio, power converter and antenna on the outside wall... A cheap power converter use ot be $10 are so  This set up will work :D
