need a machinist...t-case parts..

All,

I have a NP203 transfer case from my "tractor". When I took it apart, I noticed a bearing click sound.

Turns out the countershaft needles need spacers and this one is missing one of them. This is a 1974 chev t-case and has obvious signs that it's been worked on previous.

Anyone dare give me a quote for making a washer from steel that's 1.5 inches ID, 1.8 inches OD, and about .060 thick?

If so please sound off. I tried a small parts kit and it did not contain the needle bearing spacers.

Thanks to all,

D.

If all else fails I have found large washers about the size you are looking for.At the local hardware or tractor supply. Find one with correct ID and thickness then hand grind the OD to the proper dimension.

Gtractorfan,

I think the ends of the needles ride against the "spacer". The needles are definitely hardened, but seeing the spacers only see thrust occasionally, while shifting forward to reverse, the steel they are made of may be of little importance.

I am a ways away from you but will make it and throw it in an envelope if nobody closer chimes in. Not familiar with a transfer case or what this is for. Do you need to be a slip fit over a 1.500 shaft or inside of 1.800 bore? This changes the part by .002-.003". Generally a part that size and thickness made size to size would result in a light press fit, just so you know. Also how critical is the .060"? About is kinda subjective.

Butch in OH,

I took dimensions from an existing spacer. I figure it's better than none, which is what I found one short of.

Feel free to quote a price, seeing as my lathe, I sold better than a year ago.

Add your time and materials, including shipping, and I'll make it right.

And to be further honest, an entire kit, which is missing my part, exceeds $100. If your are willing, I'd gladly pay postage, and if the bottom line doesn't go wild, I shall get that amount to you.

I do not believe I need a hardened "spacer". It rubs against the end of the needle bearings, if that. Probably better than the plumbing brass I was thinking of using...

Again, thanks for the offer, let me know.

It sounds like you've got someone to make what you need if necessary. That said, give a bearing supply house a call. They should be able to get spacers that are made specifically to go with their bearings. It's been awhile, so I can't remember which mfg I needed one for, but a little searching got me the right part off the shelf.

Go to a local tractor dealer or good hardware and ask for machinery washers. Might be something real close off the shelf.

Thielen Motors in Park Rapids, MN - (218) 732-4101 is supposed to have one, there"s a dealer in KY that shows 6, I didn"t save the #, but could get it if needed.
