Computer speaker issue still!!!!!!

I finally got the time to return the computer to Best Buy to exchange it. THE same guy that worked on it the last time and told me the sound card or something was soldered wrong , looked at it yesterday. HE told me he had to verify what was wrong with the computer, AGAIN. He goes through the computer and tells me he found a setting that is wrong. He changed something and the rear port would then make my speakers work. Fine all is well again.

So I when I came home I hooked everything back up and my speakers worked out the rear port fine.

So last night I went through all of my older programs and installed them an any needed up dates so they would work on Windows 8. This also included my laser printer that I had a real bear of a time getting to work on this computer.

So all is well as far as I am concerned with my computer when I went to bed last night.

I start up the computer today and it seems fine. I played around most of the day on it as I just did not feel like going out to work or anything today. Kind of tired after along week.

This evening I go to YouTube to listen to some music. SPEAKERS NOT WORKING AGIAN !!!! ArGGGGGG.

I go through all of the setting and can't find anything that is set wrong that I can change at least.

The speakers are Logitech model S120. These are a simple analog speaker. They will work fine in the head phone port on the front of the computer but zero out the rear port.

The sound card is a Realtek High Definition Auto card.

When I go to setting that is the only choice I have for the speakers. It does not list anything else. When I go to setup the speakers it only shows the front port as being able to run the speakers. Online they show you being able to chose which port you want the out board sound to come from but I can't seem to get this to enable on my computer. I even made sure that the sound card had the latest driver installed.

So is it a setting issue like he told me yesterday??? Do I actually have a "bad" connection in the sound card like he told me two weeks ago??? What changed in my computer from yesterday to today???

I will tell you this much. Microsoft really dropped the ball on Windows 8. I started out on computers back in 1996 with Windows 95. Then up to Windows 98. Then to Windows XP professional. So I have been using Windows based products for right at 20 years. This operating system is the hardest I have ever used. It seems like they deliberately changed things so that anything you knew about the older systems is no longer relevant. Even something as simple as down loading a link to your favorites is twice as hard to get it into a new folder.

I think they had to go through hoops to get this to work with touch screen. All the additional programing does not seem to work as well if you are using a keyboard and mouse.

All in all I am unhappy with both Microsoft and Best Buy. I have wasted hours just trying to do simple little things on this computer. I am not going to fool with it much longer. If I have to educate myself to use something new then I will make darn sure it is not a Microsoft operating system. Since they seem to not care about their current users and made this TURKEY of a program.

Any ideas on the speaker issue??? End of rant!!!

Logitech are generally good speakers. Try going to an independent shop for help.

WINDOW 8 Probably! I hate it for several reasons...
1) My computer wont recognize Blu-Ray at all, & no one can seem to figure out why. Have 2 Blu-Ray drives!
2) Updates almost never seem to work.
3) Upgraded to Win 8.1, supposed to fix all the bugs. Nothing improved; NOT 1 DARN THING!!!
4) Just last night decided to re-install MS Flight Simulator X. When it finished the computer couldnt recognize it, No desktop icon, & Had to use "System Restore" because it messed up everything else! By the way it was on there a year ago with no problems! I AM SO SICK OF MICROSOFT I WENT SHOPPING FOR AN APPLE COMPUTER TODAY! Didn"t buy; but I plan on it!

Windows 9 is set to come out, & I hear they are going back to a lot of WIN 7 programming in it! I think later in the year.

You are assuming that there is something wrong with the computer...........

Drop a music CD in the tray. Does it play properly?

JD Seller,
When I upgraded from XP, I was warned I wouldn''t like win 8. I ended up buying a used dell laptop with a new win 7. The laptop is used as a desktop. It's plugged in to 120v. I installed a mouse. Use the ext speaker port, run it to a set of speakers with amp, then send it to the TV so we can watch Netflix. I can attach camera on side and download pics. I'm very happy with my used dell and new win 7, $175. Another $50 for 2 year extended.

If my laptop dies before win 9 comes out, then I'll buy another used cheapie. I'm tired of buying expensive computers that become junk a few years later. I have 3 working antique computers at home. None can be used on internet. I use two of them for business records, bank records, personal info, works 4.0, win 95. It's nice to know the old computers can't get a cold or virus or get chopped up by a hacker. My records are safe. SO DON'T ANYONE THINK I'M CHEAP, KIDS CALL ME HALF AMISH BECAUSE I USE OLD SCHOOL TECH.

Allen there is no sound output at the rear speaker port. It does not make any difference if it is a CD or internet based. There just is zero sound out the back speaker port.

I can get by with using the front port but the trouble is the wires hang down in the way of things on my deck. That is why I would like the rear port to work.

For the more adventurous computer users, I suggest switching over to Linux. Currently, there are some excellent distributions available that feel very similar to Windows. I'm currently using Zorin os9, but have heard that mint is also good.

Okay,

If this is one of those 'bargain basement' computers, the sound card is probably integral to the motherboard and it's bad.

Hardware issue, not software.

I'd be bellerin' to Best Buy for another computer.

Do you possibly have both a sound card and a motherboard with built-in sound? It could be that the front panel jack is plugged into the motherboard, while the rear connection is on the sound card.

Another possibility is if you have an HDMI monitor. The audio could be directed to the HDMI device; if the monitor has no speakers then there will be no sound.

Do you have a driver CD for the sound card?
You may have to run that to get the M/B to recognize it.

Since you're dumping your software anyway. Build your own computer, buy a laptop, or just reinstall your current computer (you've got nothing to lose) but make backups of what you want to keep first and switch to one of the other OSes such as one of the linux variants(ubuntu, mint, red hat, etc) or pc-bsd. If you want windows for games/programs then keep a special unit that is off the internet and only put what you want on it. If anything reinstalling with a different OS gives you a chance to see if it really is a software problem or not for no cost.

Sounds like you need to reload your audio drivers. My Dell pc had the same problem 2 weeks ago on Windows 7. I went to the Dell Web Site, Drivers, entered my Service Tag and clicked on Drivers Update and Dell updated all of my pc's drivers. Audio problem disappeared.

Nothing wrong with Windows 8.1, it was designed to make a seamless transition from your hand held device to your laptop. If you want a touch screen laptop, then Windows 8.1 is the one.

I am running Windows 8.1 and had to setup my Desktop icon with all the apps I use. Once I log on, I click on the Desktop icon and am good to go like Windows 7 Home premium. Just bought a new Dell with Windows 7 Home premium for wife as she refused to learn anything new.

David, is that offer open to everyone? If so please send email with contact info. I MAY be interested.

You want him to pay for services from another shop that should be under warranty from Best Buy?

I prefer to have people that are close enough so I can get service to them. My business is an authorized HP reseller. I can usually beat best buy pricing. I sell servers to my industrial customers, but the more computers I sell the better pricing I get.

Where are you at?

Oh gawd no!!!

If these guys are having so much trouble with a relatively simple user friendly operating system like Windows, they will absolutely go off the deep end with anything Linux.

With Linux half your hardware won't work because it's not supported, and you'll spend weeks hunting down drivers and compiling kernels. If you can't handle cut-n-paste, there is no way you'll be able to keep your Linux system working.
