i picked up some Blackhawk ratcheting combination wrenches, MAC socket combinations, and cheap stubby wrenches at a sale for $58, the MAC"s look to be worth that much, stamped "Sabina Ohio". From what I"ve been seeing, new MAC tools are made, well, just about anywhere. Armstrong, while not looking as nice, are made in USA.

Anyone have much experience with Armstrong? I"m thinking I may go that way for any new tools I buy.

And I"m watching evilpay for older MAC, may as well match what I got if I can find it, right?

I was going to try for some of the Snap-off"s they had at the sale, but the auctioneer was ticking me off. Tried to make first bid at $20-$30, instead of the $10 they were getting down to, knowing that they"d go well over $50 easily, after I bid he"d say "WHO SAID 10!". A couple times later it was "WHO SAID 5?" and I quit bidding.

Let me fix this.

Many MAC tools have been USA made that are not marked Sabina, Ohio. They quit using that marking years ago.

We use a lot of different company supplied tools where I work. Armstrong has good wrenches but the ratchets do not seam to last. The heads either strip or one of the screws will fall out. We also use Proto tools. Proto makes good impact sockets but their chrome sockets are kind of cheap. Stay away from Proto ratchets the direction switching lever is backwards and the heads are very big. We also use Blackhawk tools. Their black wrenches are very good. Just a little short sometimes. Their ratcheting wrenches are great.

I was aware of that possibility. What I've found though, is new ones, are mostly made in china.
It also appears that Snap-off has the "blue point" line, which is a little more affordable and still made in USA.

First "good" set of wrenches I've ever owned, outside a Craftsman socket set years ago. That someone managed to run over with the feeder tractor without knocking down the post it was hid behind.

I have a couple USA craftsman ratchets, but only in 1/2 inch. Need to get a couple good 3/8, and sockets. I do have a cheap dual 1/4-3/8 ratchet, that has come in handy, but is too short to be much good outside tight confines.
