Welding Stainless Steel

What options are there for welding stainless steel pipe on an exhaust system. Brother in law has some stainless steel exhaust pipe that e needs to weld. We have an AC arc welder, MIG welder, flux wire only, no gas capability and oxygen acetylene. Which can we use and what should we use for a filler rod or welding rod / wire?
Thanks,
Bill

I use stainless steel wire in my mig and a tri-mix for the gas. Its a little expensive, but I like how stainless looks, and you can weld regular steel with it also.

I welded some mild steel straps to stainless with steel MIG wire- it seemed to work fine, even ran a decent puddle, which I had been unable to do with mild steel to mild steel.

You can get stainless rods for the stick welder but not sure about the flux core welder. Can get mig wire but need gas such as a tri-mix shielding gas, 90%He/7.5%Ar/2.5%CO2.

If you're welding ss to steel, then the flux core should work. I've done it with regular mig with good results.

If you're going ss to ss and want it to be rust resistant and pretty, then you'll need the E308 rod or take it to a weld shop.

I did exhaust for 10 years, Mig with argon mix or CO2. Just weld it, just work fast and short. SS will get hot and you will blow a big hole in it, just weld like a stitch machine buzz----buzz---etc. After all it is an exhaust, not for show.(or buy a 300.00 bottle of Helium tri mix and a 80.00 roll of SS wire.) :)
