Gator Fatality

Four people on a gator were killed yesterday when a pickup pulling a trailer ran a stop sign. This happened up near JD Seller.

The driver of the truck was definitely at fault for running a stop sign, but are gators legal for road use in Iowa?

Most states they are for farm use, they are farm equipment just as a tractor is so as long as its for farm use its no different. I believe that is why most of the mules and gators are limited to under 25 mph so as to meet the requirement of being considered equipment in many states.

The Gator would be legal ONLY if it were being used for agricultural purposes. If those folks were simply joy-riding, then no, the Gator was not legal.

I feel sorry for the victims, it appears at this time it was 4 high school kids. This will probably be an interesting legal case.

I would hate to be the driver of that truck.
I don't think i would be able to live with myself having caused that much sorrow.

David I had not heard of this accident until you posted about it. Hartbecke Road comes due south off of State route 20. It has a lot of traffic as it is a cut across to a lot of farms to the south. The accident happened where Hartbecke Road Crosses Pleasant Grove road. That road is a more main road.

I am not sure why the Dubuque School director is quoted in this story. Where this happened is miles from any Dubuque School buildings of land. Maybe he was just a witness to the accident.
News paper account of the Gator accident.

New Jersey considers them ATVs and as such cannot be operated on road for any use. Been a sticking point with farmers for years.

A caravan of pickups pulling trailerd 4X4 utility fun buggies went up the road yesterday to some secondary roads for an outing.

on the way back one of the pickups was going curb for curb drunk

a good day I guess

I know Mike. He is out on Sundown just north of Pleasant Grove road.

You brother would not be named Bill would he???

They just released the names of the four boys killed in the Gator accident. I know three of the families. Sad day for them.

* Sean Kenneally, 14, Peosta

* Mitchell Kluesner, 14, Epworth

* Nicholas Kramer, 14, Dyersville

* Bryce Wilwert, 14, Epworth

Same in Indiana. Cops are instructed not to chase after an ATV. So if you want to rob a bank, do it on an ATV. In the country, it's almost a sure bet the boys on ATV's at 2 am are using them as a portable meth lab.

In Indiana you need to be 16 to get a driver's license. So what were 14 year olds doing driving on the road?

You stop at a Stop sign. You look and do not see anyone else at the intersection, so you proceed to go thru the intersection. What we do not look for is if someone is 200 feet from the intersection, still do 60mph. Wham.
We stop, but we do not really look for that person who is distracted, and is going to kill us.

Say hi to Mike if you see him, it will surprise him. He has a shooting range on his farm, I want to go up and practice some rifles.
