The adjustment screw that tightens the chain is really warn. It's very hard to get the chain tight. can it be replaced? I don't see anything on the case to allow for that.

It is replaceable but couldn't tell you how to do it. I have cut wood since I was a kid and have never had to replace one of those. Some times it is easier to let dealer do it instead of maybe messing some thing ealse while tring to fix it .

Not sure on that specific model, but on most there is a plate you remove that holds the bolt captive or an "E" clip that holds it.

Your saw is newer and might be made different than mine. I overtightened one of the bar mounting studs on my 038 and boogered the threads. I keep several new nuts handy, and I added a thick washer under the nut to move it out to an area of un-boogered threads. I've ran it for several years like that. My local dealer says he can remove and replace the boogered stud pretty easily, just hasn't gotten bad enough to need it yet. He says he has a tool for the job, but also says that a couple of lock nuts jammed on the stud will do it. Plastic case makes me nervous - gonna try to let sleeping dogs lie, if you know what I mean. I'm 65 years old and wondering if I'll ever learn not to overtighten stuff.

Assuming it to be the part you mention, but also check your sprocket for wear, I have a 390, same series I believe, and it will not maintain tension when the sprocket is worn, constantly adjusting it, world of difference with a new sprocket on.
