Bought factory refurbished string trimmer on ebay
from vminnovations--cranks, runs fine but is shipped
with No Foam air filter--does this make sense to
someone?? Not me..No this is not just an oversight--
the info on line says in bold letters-shipped with
no foam filter..I do not understand...Does anyone??I
guess they figure you run it with no filter and u
will suck in dust and wear it out quick and u will
buy another one........

I would take that to be totally stupid..I'll never buy an item again that isn't ready to go out of the box..

There has to be some legal loophole there like it is incomplete merchandise so taxes are different or something. I've seen some weird stuff like that with vehicles.

It could have been an over site of the person rebuilding it. Give them a call and they may send you the filter.

First time poster over here. Daily reader. Bought a blower from there about a year n a half ago. Same thing no foam filter. Contacted them thru ebay asked for the filter. Was told those don't use a filter. So I looked it up on homelite website and sure enough there is a filter in parts list.
Contact Homelite ask for filter. Nice lady tells me that model uses no filter. My reply that's odd it's shown in the parts list, so she looks and says well I will send you one.
Contact VM once again for filter. Tell them to check parts diagram and list and SEND ME A FILTER. Idiots send a complete housing no foam in it.
So honestly it is my fault the disclaimer is in there now. Tom

I"d just like to know rhe reason for shipping with
no filter--makes no sense at all..I guess it is just
one less item for them to Have to mess with,,First
one I got from VMInnovations was damaged--almost
like pulling hen"s teeth to make them understand
that I just needed the filter cover--thing was
poorly packed--its a wonder it made it at all--
anyway finally got the filter cover bit no
filter..So now I get to run allover creation trying
to find one...

Bought a Ryobi hedge trimmer a few years ago. I was too cheap to buy a decent one, because we only use it once or twice a year at rental properties. I was surprised to find it has no air filter. I guess they figure the typical homeowner will wear out the other parts before dirt takes its toll on the engine. (Moral: I shoulda bought a Stihl. Or at least an Echo.)

I have Stihl saw and blower--Bought a Stihl trimmer prob. 8-10 yrs ago--took it back because the string head guard was made so skimpy that it was the rock throwingest thing I had ever used..It was dangerous even if you could wear three pair of safety glasses...Just for my yard I use the cheap Homelite and get several yrs out of them...Best trimmer I perasonally ever owned was a Green Machine--it lasted for many years...

I have a budget hedge trimmer and a budget leaf blower that did not come with air filters. Both are about 15 years old now and they still work fine.

If there is a cover over the intake you could add your own oiled foam filter. You might have to adjust the carburetor if it runs richer.

I added my own filter but I still need to get another one--my foam material was not thick enough..And like you said thickness and density does matter and too much oil on one will cause a problem too--I just coat with oil, wrap in paper towel or something similar and squeeze out all I possibly can..

Good evening tom
Would you run your car, truck or tractor without one ? I know that there is a lot of differences in price , but you get the jest. Never run it without the filter. Even the light dust will ruin a engine fast.
