Bleech Dilution...Moss on Shingles

What water & bleech ratio is necessary to kill light moss growing on my shingles? Must a person be careful to keep any over spray off the aluminum siding?

Thank you,
Glenn F.

Glenn F,
Menards is giving deck wash away for free after rebate. I use to not only to clean decks, but it great for removing mold from siding.

I have used a garden water can and dumped bleach on shingles before. Dilute it just a little. But it will take many attempts to kill the moss.

The best way to keep moss off the the roof is expose roof to sun light. Good bet your problem is caused by trees shading roof.

Menards also sells a zinc metal strip, 2 inches wide. If you nail this to the top ridge of roof, the zinc will slowly disolve when it rains and zinc will kill the moss. I've used it on one of my rentals. It does better job than bleach. I can't really say if the bleach ever completely removed all the moss.

I had to cut the tree down that was causing my problem. A wind storm put part of the tree on the house, producing 12 sky lights in roof. Remove the shade and the sun will dry out shingles, problem solved.

I've used the zinc strip of other places too, good results. Try it.

Bleach will not damage the aluminum siding. You should use Scotts moss killer to have a lasting affect. It is slippery stuff so you don't want to walk on it after the application

Used it all zinc works but wears out soon best thing I ever used sprinkle powdered Tide laundry soap over roof. Works the best here in moss country, (western Oregon)

I second the laundry detergent. I used Costco Clout...it was cheap. Used about and ice cream bucket on my roof , each side about 20 X 100. Spread by hand or belly grinder. Put it on when dry, let the rain wash it off...use as preventative so it may be necessary to do a few times to kill it all and clean up.

Be careful up there, even dry can be slippery...I'm from the west coast too, so I know moss and slippery roofs.
