Wico Mag...No Spark

The Wico magneto on my SC CASE is not producing any
spark. Everything under the cap, including points, looks like
new. What needs to be done?

Thank You,
Glenn F.

Do a little reading on this site. Might help you track down the problem.

Even if the points "look like new" they are the most LIKELY cause of your problem.

Burnish 'em up by repeatedly drawing a clean piece of cardstock through them a few times, them prop 'em open, and clean them off with electrical contact cleaner and allow it to dry.

HOPEFULLY, spark will return!

All it takes is a little film of grease or oil on points and they will not work. I would use a point file or emery cloth to clean them then a piece of box flap like the box they came in to finish them up. Did that the other day on the boys new to him motorcycle and it fired right up and it had sat for 10 years

I have a Wico magneto on a Wisconsin engie, when it does not have spark, as said by Bob and Old the points are the likely problem. The contacts need to shine, not be tarnished.

I think the contacts were the culprit. Tractor is now running, but as stated on Tractor Talk & the Case page, tractor has very sluggish throttle response. Haven't figured it out yet.

Thank you for your mag suggestions.

To clean points I fold U.S. currency so that the silver side is exposed and with the spring tension of the points in the closed position, clean them. The silver is slightly abrasive, will clean most film but not damage the metal. Strong dollar.
