Well pump question

Hello,

I took the old pump and motor assy. home,
It came apart in a few minutes. The pump is shot, but the motor is good. Is the pump available separately? It seems a waste to junk a good motor,

You could try putting it on craigslist, I have the same situation with a 1 hp Aermotor shallow well pump. Are you sure the pump is shot, is the coupling OK? I have taken those pumps all apart and washed the silt out and run them afterwards.

Hello Russ from MN,

YES! The coupler is off center, and if shook it sounds like there are marbles inside. Loose parts I can see as well! I'm surprise of the condition, it was pumping 3 Gallons a minute. Motor is a 1H.P. 3 wire 240Volts,

Guido.

Last time I had a problem like that I called around to the well drillers etc. and found a good used one and cost me almost nothing. A lot of the older guys keep old pumps laying around because of the fact a motor or pump can be bad but the other is still good

Curious as to how deep the pump was set and the head above it in pressure or height. 1 Horsepower seems a lot for 3 gpm??

Hello Roger in Iowa,

The pump WAS a 20 gallon per minute pump. All the sand it pumped ruined it. The new pump is now @60 feet with first water @ 40 feet. Originally the pump was sat 70 feet and zero water. The old pump was brought up 10 feet , and only produced the 3 gallons a minute,

Guido.

Hello old,

I thought of checking with the well guy. He may have a bad motor and a good pump. I don't need it, but as you know I do the 3R'. Reuse, repurpose, and recycle as much as I can,

Guido.

Yep understand the 3 Rs well I too do that and that is why I have a scrap iron pile as big as I do

Hello merlynr,

Actually was not the pump's fault. Sand was the reason the pump failed. Never seen sand so fine!
Almost like powder. I had a well at the other house, and it lasted 30 years. Only reason we stopped using it , it got contaminated,

Guido.
