Security cameras

With the high cost of tools and equipment does anybody use deer (or other) cameras for security. Appreciate any recommendations.

Anymore the best way to keep your things is GAURD it your self & if that will not deter them then get a PIT BULL with AIDS & chain it to what you want to protect.

I think you will have too IMPORT the Dog From one of the Eastern Countries . Be sure that you put up a enough SIGNS .

There are many people who do use game cameras. Make sure to get an infrared camera and tape over the "power" light. I'd also recommend placing it up high (as in you need a ladder to get to it). A lot of people have had their game cameras stolen even when used just for game. If you don't get an infrared camera, they often flash... which wouldn't help you. Also keep in mind many infrared cameras only have a 30ft or so effective range and thinking about where you would most likely capture the face of would be thieves.

A big challenge will be trying to keep batteries in it.

A simple game camera caught these two snooping around my farm .My neighbour was able to identify them , so were the the local police . Stern words made sure they didn't trespass again .

(quoted from post at 06:12:55 07/21/14) Looks like that one feller is armed with a plastic spoon.
His ute was packed with tools and both had form for previous burglaries . I suppose even criminals need to eat lunch , lol.

The signs have to be in whatever language the perps claim to speak, or some sleezeball lawyer will get them off.

I bought a Q-see security camera package from Home Depot. It was on sale for $300.00. Came with 4 cameras with infared lights for night. Unit will operate as many as 8 cameras. Motion activated with over 2300 hrs recording time before it starts to record over what's on the dvr.

Placed the cameras high off the ground where they can't be reached. It requires power, but if your power source is protected, thieves can't cut the power before they get recorded.

Recording unit is well protected where a thief can't get to it.

Only draw back is the infared lights burn all night and would be spotted by a thief.

Recordings can be downloaded to a flash drive.

All in all, a nice unit.

$300 is cheap considering how much we all have invested in tools and equipment.

So what if the lights burn all night???

If the idea is to CATCH the thief, that may be a drawback, BUT.....if the idea is to DETER the thief, all the better to have them see the light and KNOW that they are being watched and recorded!!!

Nothing will stop a Real criminal.....
Cameras and signs saying they are in use will
sometimes make the pro pick a new, easier, target.
When using cameras, always at least 2. One in the obvious spot, one hidden pointing at the first one.
When they try to disable or steal the obvious one, you can get a good picture of them from camera 2.
If you wish, A business card on the first one, saying
"congrats, you found the camera, and your picture has just been taken by the one you didn't see...Leave now"

Also, a pressure switch or eye near the camera wired to a loud alarm. If a bad guy sees the camera, they will attempt to smash it or steal it, trips the alarm, burglars hate noise.

I have Bushnell cameras at my prop. I power them by wiring (4) 6v batteries in parallel, this usually last a couple of years.

Its always surprising how many visitors I get.
