Killing Creeping Charlie

I did not want to hijack in on the thread below. But what do you folks use to kill Mr. creeping Charlie. I have tried to use Trimec mixed two ounces to the gallon with no success. Trimec might have put fertilizer in my container. Mr. creeping Charlie looks really good and is growing well. I am under the impression that Round up kills everything even your lawn grass, I would like to save the lawn.

What kills Brush by spraying the leaves? I have sprayed brush before and the leaves look sickly for awhile then turn a healthy green again.
any suggestions?

i have good luck with either tri-mec or triplet. add a squirt of dish soap so it sticks to the plant better.

Trimec works well here. Anything with dicomba.

As well, a weed and feed granular application, stuff that kills dandelions, will knock it rown.

Seems it taks 2 tries to really get it, first one it only notices.

Seems a little earlier in the year, a little cooler, they die better?

Killing it in the spring or summer is really tough. I have sprayed some random creeping Charlie in my lawn five times this spring already with 2-4 D. Spray is tough on the grass also as I put it on pretty strong. Have had good luck spraying in the fall previously.

Glechoma hederacea (syn. Nepeta glechoma Benth., Nepeta hederacea (L.) Trevir.) is an aromatic, perennial, evergreen creeper of the mint family Lamiaceae. It is commonly known as ground-ivy, gill-over-the-ground,[1] creeping charlie, alehoof, tunhoof, catsfoot, field balm, and run-away-robin.[1] It is also sometimes known as creeping jenny, but that name more commonly refers to Lysimachia nummularia. It has numerous medicinal uses, and is used as a salad green in many countries. European settlers carried it around the world, and it has become a well established introduced and naturalized plant in a wide variety of localities.

There is a Saturday morning home and garden show here with a couple old timers that give advice to callers.
A couple of times I have heard them say to use 20 mule borax - mixed in water and sprayed on. Takes a couple of applications to do the job.
I don't know the ratio to mix it.
Maybe you can look on google.

Yea what he said, I have about 100 tree stumps that insist on sprouting, I have chopped sprayed with round up, various home grown concoctions, straight diesel fuel, I am now pouring rock salt around them, 50# at a time, and they are greener than ever.
Heeeeeellllllllllppppp!

I was with the 82nd Airborne from 1953 until1955.

If you want the tree stumps dead buy roundup with the purple cap, it's expensive. Mix it 50/50 with diesel fuel or antifreeze. make a fresh cut as if you are cutting the tree or stump off. within 20 minutes paint the top of the freshly cut stump with the roundup mixture and the stump will die. works best if done in the fall. There is a cheaper product also, not sure of the name.

I have heard of that also, but never a mixing formula. That borax does something to the soil that charlie does not like. You can over borax the soil also, that's not good. I had forgot about that, will look into it again.

Thanks for the suggestion and ideas guys, just have to write them down so I don't forget.

Give each stump a fresh cut, and paint with roundup full strength, or garlon (trichlopir). Don't wait,, paint while the cut is fresh...

Stumps need to be treated while fairly freshly cut. I use strong roundup or brush killer on them just douse the fresh cut with the killer.
