Super glue / crazy glue permanent repair trick

A great trick for repairing cast alloy . Use super glue / crazy glue and add bicarbonate of soda to it before it goes off . The bicarb acts as a filler and sets rock hard , use glue then add a little soda then more glue in layers . You can build up broken diecast parts , repair abs plastic , and just about anything else that the glue will stick to . This stuff is so hard and so tough that you can drill and tap it to take a thread . Practice a little on scrap first and remember to use bicarbonate of soda [ from the cooking section of the super market ] , don't use washing soda .

The chemical reaction that hardens the glue happens rather quickly. Just when depends on the type of glue. When the reaction occurs/goes off, heat and a wiff of gas with a very disagreeable, irritating odor is produced. The gas is very irritating to the eyes and it will fog clear plastic. Industrial strength glue will produce enough heat to make a metal mixing continer too hot to hold.

There are much better cyanoacrylates than super glue or crazy glue...

Box stores have Loctite and Gorilla brands that are really good quality.

Normally the "goes off" reaction is not very spectacular but it can be.
