Best Way to Split a Roll of Tar Paper

I have a roll of tar paper, 15 #, that I picked up to use as mulch in the garden. What's the best way to cut in in half? Skill and chainsaws gunk up. Would a block or metal cutting blade work?

I have rolled it out and mark center and take a straight 2x4 and line one edge with marks and then use a utility knife to cut it.

We cut many of them with a chainsaw, no problem. Before that we tried freezing them and using a skill saw, didn't work so well. We were putting on a cedar shake roof, about 50 squares, put tar paper between every course.

We used to cut it with a good oiled hand saw. Every few strokes you wipe the saw blade with an oil soaked rag. We where using it under cedar shingles on older barns.
