weed wacker combo mcwilly

Has anyone bought one of those Stihl KM130R combo units? My weed wacker and hedge trimmer have both calved this year, dad bought a micro roto tiller thingy at newfoundland speed and sport today. I suggested that for the 300 big ones he paid that maybe I'd buy a combo unit that would include his tiller and a wacker as well as a hedge trimmer and a small rotary brush as well. The tiller attachment is $190.00 , I figured he could use the other $110.00 for something else. I priced it on line and although the above mentioned goodies are a tad spendy, at least I'll only have 1 motor instead 4 to keep running. And if it'll last like their saws do, I should never have to buy another one.

I have used the little tiller, and they are not of much use. Too light to do much of anything with, including cultivating around plants. I suggest you save your money. by light I do not mean flimsy, I mean not enough weight to dig in to the ground, because you are carrying the engine, and hand grips are close to the balance point.

You don't have to carry that tiller. There is a wheel set that you can use and it like a mini tiller.

If you use the stihl regularly, use the $5/qt premixed fuel that lowe's sells. $5.00 is cheap, compared to the fuel lines and carbs. These units are allergic to ethanol...

Thanks for your replies. I went ahead and bought the big one with 5 attachments. Dad likes the scratcher tilller, it's doing what he figured on it doing(just scratch the weeds off the surface) we have a big Honda for the heavy stuff. I like the pole saw and brush cutter. It ought to last as I mix my fuel at 20 to 1 instead of 50 to 1 and run only high test.

Hello mattwillson,

WAO! That is a pretty heavy mix! I don't know why you are mixing that heavy, but even with high test, you are lowering the octave level pretty low? More engines are smoked that way then running them lean.

Good choice on the Stihl!

Bad idea on the 20:1 oil! That engine was never intended to run that mix ratio. Going to cause all kinds of problems, and they won't warranty them!
Use Stihl oil, mix 50:1, keep it fresh, you'll be glad you did!

Couple of bucks worth of glyphosate sure saves a LOT of $$$ for fancy $$$ weedwackers!

I have run all my Stihls on Opti-2 from day one and Stihl will honor warranty using Opti-2. One mix covers all of them + any of my other 2 cycle engines.

I hope you bought a six-pack of Stihl Ultra oil at the same time. If the oil is on the same invoice as your Stihl purchase, its warranty is automatically doubled.

As others said, I don't know why you're running 20:1.
Stihl double warranty.

I've got one with the weed whacker, tiller and blower attachments- all work great, IMHO. Tiller will get the weeds if you walk forward, and will dig in if you pull it backwards. No good for grass or sod, of course, but I didn't expect it to be.

Something the others haven't mentioned is that the engine is a 4 cycle, even tho you use gas-oil mix. Starts easier, idles nicely, just a lot more pleasant to use than a 2 cycle. Guess I'm wondering how you keep the plug from fouling with the 20:1 mix.

I bought the Stihl combo last year that"s a weed whacker and I got the adjustable angle hedge clipper attachment so far. I"ve worked that hedge clipper hard and it"s the best tool I ever bought. It basically functions as a hand-held bush hog. and I can clip stuff up high too. I had a large, thick, overgrown blackberry patch that would have been difficult to hack down with anything short of a dozer. The Stihl combo hedge clipper took care of it in no time, and hacked all the 8-10" long canes into small pieces.
