Electric Mini Tillers: Anyone use one?

Okay, I'm overrun with hoeing the weeds. Been wanting a mini tiller for some time. Really, really don't want a 2 cycle like the Mantis. Once I had a Honda in mind but $350 seems steep. Everywhere I need, I can reach with a cord. Are the electrics any good? They say: just as powerful as the gassers. Mrs redtom would run an electric too, but not a 2 cycle.

I bought one 3 years ago after fighting with my gas tiller for the last time, bad gas, mice under flywheel, broken pull cord, etc. It"s branded Troy-Bilt, about the size of a Mantis. I have used it to re-do my whole back lawn, about 50'x75' and for the small garden I have. This thing works great, the tines are thin, sharp and turn fast, but the light weight doesn"t beat you up when using it. Make sure you use a big enough cord and you can run it all day long. HTH Jf

Which style do you have. I looked at home depot page and see a few styles. one with no wheels, a few that look like mini gas tillers, 9, 10, 11, 14 inch sizes.

Have had a Troy Built for 3 years. I use it all summer long. Use with a heavy gauge cord and it performs bout the same as the Gasoline Mantis did. An added benefit is the low noise level and instant on and off. Will not go back to a gas powered, but for primary tillage it is a bit slow.

I found an electric Mantis in a vacant lot that had been through a fire. I re wired it and it works great for tilling our beds. The only thing it goes too fast. . Originally it had a resistor for speed control. That is what burned up.

Stay away from the gas Mantis. I have six in my junk pile. All less than a year old all broke. Know a lady 81 has the electric version. She likes it.

I have a Mantis tiller that's over 30 years old.
I plant double rows and is very useful when tilling my green beans. My wife bought it, but it's not that light. It started on the first pull
after sitting in my mini barn since last summer.
I have a picture somewhere. Hal
PS: I use my Troy Bilt on the tomato plants. Hal

I bought my wife one form Sportsman guide about 4-5 years ago.

She uses it for her raised beds. Its light weight and ugly green it cost around $60 at the time.

Knock on wood I hope the ugly thing last a long time.

My wife loves the thing

have you tried a stirrup or scuffling hoe? i picked one up a couple years ago, really works good and a lot easier than a regular garden hoe. sharpen both cutting edges good before you use it, most come dull. use a push pull action and it slices the weeds right off. heres a picture. menards also has them
