Electric can opener

I had an electric can open for years and it worked good till it died
Bought another and it was junk. Have bought 3 more and they are all hard to get the can started and start cutting. I have talked to a few people and everyone says the same, none work good. Anyone know of a brand that works the first time every time?

My wife gave up on electric can openers several years ago. She got a nice Kitchen Aid hand can opener that turns easily so she uses that to open cans.

My wife has a hand operated Pampered Chef. Its a breeze. I believe even arthritic hands could operate this one. Of course your wife will have to go to a pampered chef party and who knows what else she will bring home. lol gobble

ldj,

Same thing at my house. Good old one, junk new ones. Like Dick2 said, my wife bought a Kitchen Aide manual, and in spite of her arthritis and fibromyalgia, she's able to use it with only minimal effort.

Good luck with your choice.

Hello ldj,

Got the same problem! Kitchen Aid, two of then. first junk.
Now this OXO after a few months is not cutting.
It did a neat job when new with no sharp edges. It has a lift for the cant top, and I wind up using it to force some cans open,

I bought a commercial can opener last year. Not electric but it
works good and fast. First day I used it, we opened 36 large
cans of corn and tomatoes for Brunswick stew. It worked great.
In past years of cooking the lightweight openers didn't work
good on the large cans. It was about $65 from Amazon.com
with free shipping and we'll worth the money. Tommy

We had a Hamilton Beach for many years and when it went bad we tried Hamilton Beach,Kitchen Aid and Black&Decker. We bought the upper end models of all of them but none of them cut good. We then tried a number of hand models and ended up with one made by Farberware and an other one by Pampered Cheif that do a good job.

Same problem in our kitchen we went thru several electric ones and finaly went back to hand held but they aren't any better, we now have a OXO easy grip, had it about a year and it still cuts good. It doesn't look at all like Guidos pic.and don't know how long it will last 1 yr. is not a good test. My wife gets pretty upset when she has to fight with a can opener.

Look for a "Swing-A-Way" manual on Ebay.
Mine was passed down to me, has prolly cut 4000 cans open in the last 40 years. Still working perfect

I have an hand crack can opener we been using for 30 odd years.
It never fails to open a can no pain no strain.

Seems like if it does not run on gas, electric or batteries nothing is worth having these days.

Hello flembo,

That opener actually cuts on the outside top can lip to cut the can . A smooth and clean cut ,but bigger cans are a pain and do not cut very easy,

Guido.

Ours cuts the top it seems to work ok but as I said haven't had it long enough. It's crazy when you think about it you can't even get a can opener that works well or lasts.
I know there are good ones out there but far and few between.
