Where to buy a good die for cutting threads?

Grainger , MSC, McMaster Carr . Alot of the Bearing supply houses will have them too.....

or you could get one off a automotive tool truck, Snap-on, Matco, Cornwell. something like that.Just look when you go by some kind of automotive dealership maybe a tool truck will be there.

Greenfield is the name to look for. The best in the business, and the choice of MOST job shops. Also keep in mind that Snap-On does guarantee their taps and dies the same as hand tools.

There have been a few local hardware stores that stock machine-shop-quality drills, taps, and dies, but they"ve been few and far between. There are still a number of local suppliers in medium+ size cities, and short of a recommendation from a local machine shop, the best way to find one is to look in the yellow pages under "Tools, Cutting" or telephone a manufacturer of those tools and ask them to recommend a supplier.

Of course, there used to be dozens of reputable cutting-tool manufacturers in the US, and a like number overseas, but those days are gone. The one maker I would unhesitatingly recommend for thread-cutting tools is OSG, with Regal and a couple others not too far behind.

When I can"t buy from a local supply house, mail-order suppliers are a workable alternative. McMaster-Carr is a very reliable supplier, with Travers Tool a little farther down the food chain.
