Weed burner

Mine got toasted a couple days ago, it was from harbour freight. I'm thinking I want a better one. Any one ever made one? What did you use.

I assume you mean a large propane torch! I have made a few, largest using 2 inch pipe and a smaller one using 1 1/4. For the large ones we used a grease zerk with the ball check punched out for the orifice. I have had to experiment with orifice size to get them to burn right. Isn't yours repairable?

The hose got burnt up in the grass fire it would cost more to repair the hose then it would to go to Harbor freight and buy another cheapie but I'm thinking I want to be better one

I've looked at the HF ones and compaired them to one I've had for years (since before HF was around here). To me, it wouldn't be worth the price difference to get a "better" one as all they are is a valve, an orifice, and a shield to funnel the flame. Unless you spend more to get one with electronic ignition, or some other gadget, I'd say the plain jane models are pretty much all going to be the same other than the name branded on them.

In my opinion, it is hard to beat the HF weed burner, especially if you can get it on sale for less than $20. Mine must be about 20 years old and it still works OK. The tubing is probably not as flexible as it once was, but it hasn"t broken yet.

I have seen other similar devices in other stores, but they were more like $60 to $100. Maybe they were better, but how good does a person need?

I would just go back to HF and get another and then be more careful about leaving it somewhere that it can get damaged. Good luck!

I think mine is a Forney. Very simple and well built unit. Haven't seen the HF examples. There are times with an igniter would be a handy thing to have. I never seem to have any knuckle hair after lighting mine....

We have Tiger torches up here as well as Westorch which is pretty much the same thing. They have a cast head and not formed sheet metal. They're used a lot for preheating steel prior to welding.

Check out Flame Engineering. They are made in Kansas and are very good quality. The company makes other commercial and agricultural grade "flame " products
