After 33 yrs of putting food on the table for a family of 4, the Baldor 5 hp motor on my compressor finally had it. 12 yrs ago my elect guy did a winding repair on it but that's been it. Windings finally smoked. Not really repairable IMO. It owes nothing.Only use it for hobby work now but compressor still in good shape so new motor on the way. I'm sure it may be able to be cobbled up to work but what else is worn out at 33 yrs? It's an IR industrial T-30 80 gal 5hp 22cfm@100# and is still the best investment I ever made back in 1981. It will outlast me now..

After I retired from the US Government I was rehired by several government contractors. The old compressor died and when you order through the government they want you to buy through the federal stock system. I ordered a new IR rotary compressor through the contractor I was working for. That was 25 years ago and it's still in use. The man that replaced me has also retired.

I have a Sears 3hp compressor I bought in 1972. I had to replace the head gasket sometime ago. Hal

In my book Baldor is the best motor. I'd take it to a motor shop to see about having it rewound.

Should be able to rewind it any number of times. I'd take it to an ecletric motor repair place and at least have them take a look at it.

Most time a motor shop won't in good conscience recommend you rewind a 500 buck motor these days. They know up front they will cost more for a rewind than a new motor will cost... The old guy I go to will generally only wind the special frame stuff or large motors.

I have a Wane 60 gallon compressor that was built 3 years after I was born, still going strong and I'm 54.

Age of the compressor is not really a defining factor. Care of the unit is. I am running a 1938 Curtis 2-cylinder 2-stage pump that has outlasted 2 motors, 1 tank and a couple of unloader valves. I got it from a used machinery dealer and mounted it on a tank that was welded and not riveted and machined V-belt grooves in the flat belt pulley and have run it since 1980 on at least once or twice weekly. Have cleaned the valves a couple of times and keep good fresh oil in it.I like the quiteness and vibration free operation of it since it only turns 940 RPMS.
