Hello,

I have these two props, but have no idea what they are worth?. They are for a 175H.P. Mercury outboard. They will work with a motor up to 225 H.P.. Any one know what would they be worth?
One has a little 1/8 nick, but I think is O.K. to use.............

Hello bo,

I just looked at E bay. Some ugly ones the same size are going for $150. I would think mine are worth at least that. But you got find some one that can used them. $150 would be nice for each,

Boating is a discretionary pastime, so appearance and emotions affect selling prices. It works best to clean things up the best you can, before listing them. Asking close to 50% of retail price should sell them. Also list you prop's diameter, pitch, material and brand name/model # if you can find it. Are they both the same pitch, or is one for economy and one for power/skiing?

Stainless steel props will bring more than twice as much as aluminum will.

You can buy a new aluminum prop for that kind of money. I don't know what you were looking at unless they were stainless steel props.

Are they stainless? If so, they are worth serious money, maybe a couple hundred bucks each.

You need to know their sizes, in particular pitch. Manufacturers will mark the pitch on the prop, usually followed by a "P". (e.g. "21P" indicates 21 inch pitch) Try to look up the manufacturer's part number to find out exactly what you have.

A prop shop can repair minor damage, but you probably won't get the cost of the repair back when you sell the prop.

Those are usually made of 15-5ph stainless steel. The alloy it self really isn"t that valuable as scrap since the foundry can buy certified "virgin" material for about $1.70/#.

15-5 is considered corrosion "resistant" not corrosion proof like 300 series stainless. The alloy is however one of the highest strength cast materials out there and it"s primary usage is high stressed aircraft components. Props are made from it because of the strength characteristics.

These are investment cast and as such it makes these more expensive than the aluminum ones which are either die-cast or sand cast.

I would look on Ebay for their going rate. One thing I would suggest is that you figure out the diameter and pitch so you can accurately nail down what motor they will really fit.

Depending on their age and previous usage the rubber slip clutch in the bore may need to be replaced. You may want to have a marina look at them before you list them to be fair to the buyer.

A lot of the value depends on how FAST the customer can get one.

I would let the ski-patrol bid them up. Start with opening bid of 139.95.

Shipping charges FOB Florida Keys.
