Colorado Potato beetles

What do you use to control these little varmints? (By the way, potatoes are used as fuel so I can work on my junk). I mash as many as I can and have sprayed. They seem to be resistant to most of my spray.

diatomaceous earth does a good job on em. dust the plants when its dry. if it gets wet it needs to be re-applied. most garden centers sell it. works on most pests and is non toxic.

We get a liquid from Southern States Coop. Spray it in the row then plant the potatoes. Used to have a monster problem with them, but now don't even see any at all. I'll try to remember to look at the bottle tomorrow down at the shop & let you know what it's called. Keith

Good luck! CPBs are one of the toughest buggers out there. By nature they have an amazing ability to develop resistance to most any chemical we (humans) have ever thrown at them.

Cryolite is one thing that still works, but kinfa a pain to work with, and will wash off the plant in a rain. Not sure what, if any, systemics still work well

There is a systemic that commercial growers are using here, called Admire. Applied to the seed before planting, or in the furrow as planted. I have a sample I"m trying this year on my garden potatoes - we"ll see.

Here in potato country they"ve tried about every insecticide known to man, and sometimes in combination. The bugs have developed immunity to about everything. Ordinary homeowner insecticides sold to us mere mortals are all but useless. I"m about to try getting some chewing tobacco and distilling out the nicotine - if I only knew what the nicotine would do in the potato...

Non toxic? And it kills beetles? I was commercial pesticide applicator for over 40 years and I never saw anything non toxic kill anything. OK if you use enough of it maybe. Enough salt or aspirin will kill you.

I am gonna try the diatomaceous earth next year, that stuff works wonders on all kind of pests, including fire ants. We had a slight problem with the bugs this year, but just dug my new potatoes this morning, only about 200 lbs worth. JB in East TX.

Merit will work. When the first generation starts, keep a close watch every day until the second hatch comes out. It only takes a day or two. Spray at this time. FOLLOW DIRECTIONS It only takes a little / Ac.This is a one time only spray And by getting two generations, they are done for the year. This advice came from our Age dealer. Ed

Diatomaceous earth is a powder made from fossilized
diatoms. Food grade is abrasive and gets on the insect and
causes it to dehydrate. Basically sands the outer skin of the
bugs and dries em out. If it gets wet, you have to re apply it.
Only works if it is dry.
