I second more storage space in the hay mow.
The bank barns around here (Winchester VA) have solid flooring in the center, set tightly for a threshing floor. On the sides the floors are often iffy with large gaps to dry the hay. Hay would be stacked to the ceiling. All this in the era before bailing of hay.

That's exactly what I did on the upper part of the barn my family owned. I was 13 when we moved there. Can't begin to tell you how many 1000's of shots I took in there. The cows & horses downstairs probably went deaf from all the thumping up there.
