How To Stop Gutter Spikes From Causing Leaks

A few years back I built a 30' addition on the side of my shop. Despite great care in installing the gutter there is a leak by nearly every spike/ferrule. How can this be corrected?

Thanks,
Glenn F.

Normally, the spike plugs the hole it makes. To reduce leakage or seepage you would need to keep the water level below the level where the spikes come through the gutters.

Most people install gutters level, and try to keep the spikes in the uppermost inch of gutter. You can rehang the gutters to provide some slope for improved water flow, and you can add more downspouts,

Too late now, but they make mo' betta gutter brackets than the old spikes. These screw into the fascia and only penetrate the back side of the gutter.

About all you can do now is caulk them up as best you can, unless you want to replace the gutters.

Why is your gutter running so full, so often that this is considered a problem?

Is it clean and draining properly?
