Re: old hand water pump in reply to Scott D. Orbaker, 06-04-2014 02:05:56
Been a while since I used one but I remember an accident involving a hand pump that happened at least 60 years ago. Neighnor's brother-in-law was living with the neighbor during cotton harvest. Fellow was about 5'4", wore a 5" brim western hat, moved fast and according to him, could whip a bear and bob cat with one arm tied behind his back. He pumped a quick bucket of water, released the handle and reached for the bucket. WACK,the handle hit him and knocked him out cold. He had a bruised face and recieved a lot of ribbing over being whipped by a pitcher pump. Why did some of those old pumps kick while others didn't?
