Update on the grease tool thingy

I ordered a last week...Update, I got the thingy, in the mail, last night... Went out today, and gave'er a go. Verdict is, best $30 I ever spent, I'm gonna order another couple. I greased all but one fitting on the NH 256 rake, only one I couldn't grease, was the right hand drive shaft U joint, and that was because it was pointed inward, and I couldn't move the rake, cause it wasn't hooked to a tractor...
Also greased up the Hesston 5530 round baler, and got all the fittings. This thing is only about 10% longer than a standard tip, and maybe 1/16" bigger in diameter. I also didn't lose nearly as much grease, as I do with a normal tip. Makes greasing a easier job, for sure! Oh, and greasing the hay equipment made it rain pitchforks and broom handles, too!

ok you guys are slowly convincing me.

We'll see what dalex thinks.

I usually don't go for gimmicky little special tools like that... but maybe. I do like the concept.

I got mine yesterday. Two farmers stopped at my shop and we went out in the yard and found about a dozen of the worst fittings we could find. It worked without leaking and broke grease through every fitting. Both guys asked me to order 4 "lock and load" ends for their use.
I got mine on ebay same thing same price and no ahipping. The guy even pays shipping if you do not like it.
The only thing that is a little odd I noticed it is made in South Africa. At least it was not from China. Still it is quite impressive for what it is used for.

Okay, I'm sold on 'em. I've noticed lately, though, that my grease guns don't seem to last very long. When I put in a new tube, they work okay. But when it gets down to half, they won't pump any pressure to get the grease moving. Am I just buying low-quality guns?

Quick tip on greasing the U-joints of a NH 256 rake:

You don't need to move the rake to get the U-joints in a position where you can grease them.

Just put the rake in gear, and slowly spin the rake bars by hand, until the shaft turns to where you can get at the fitting.

This works for any rake with a ratchet clutch in the wheels, like the NH 56, 256, 258, 259, etc.

We used to struggle to get at the fittings on the U-joints, but I discovered that when you stop, and the basket keeps turning, the shafts keep turning too. That's what the "click-click-click" is.

pull the spring loaded handle at the tube end and rotate when it is under pressure. This usual works for me.

Tried it on some harder to get to fittings on a Long hay tedder, today. Even fit it through that impossible to get through hole in the PTO shield, to get to the rear U joint, on one of those modern triangular drive shafts. Also was able to Lube the ORC, behind the rear U joint. If the thingy will bite onto the fitting, even if it is at a 10-15 degree angle, it WILL pump grease in. On the ones that you have to put it on at an angle, it may lose a marble sized blob of grease, but nowhere near the amount you lose with a regular tip...

I got one of them grease thingys and it works great. I will be ordering at least two more. ThNks diydave for posting about this grease gun adapter.

I think you grease guns are getting air locked.
Just loosen the theaded end pick it is almost off
and pump till you get grease. Then tighten it up.
Also, I have taken the tube and fitting off and pumped a few times. Seems to work to.
If that does not work, I would throw the grease gun on the scrap pile.

If you store a grease gun, where it will get wet with the weather, the cartridges, which are made of paper, which can swell up, and deform, causing a jam, and the loss of half a tube of grease.

JR : I got mine yesterday , and it works perfectly. No leaks and it really stays put ! Now for the longevity test , we'll see in 5 years !

OK, OK, I'm convinced I'll order one and give it a try. I hate wasting grease. Seems you can't get a quality tip these days that won't leak grease.
