Solar Panel Fencer Update

Posted last year about a solar panel/12 volt fencer/charge controller/deep cycle battery setup I put together. Was asked to post an update to see how it handled the winter.

Short answer is fine

Anyway, it's set up about 300 yards away from the house, I could see the indicator lights in the dark when I got up to go to work, never totally discharged the battery all winter even with (I'm sure) some snow cover on the panel for a few days at a time.

If I needed another one I'd do it again.

Those solar fence chargers can surprise you. We had one on a heifer pasture fence. It didn't work well and we basically forgot it was there for several years.

One spring we were fixing fence and I reached down and grabbed the (not) hot wire to put it back on an insulator. I got knocked on my butt! That stupid old solar fencer was actually working!

I went to the older post you linked. I'm surprised you don't have problems with stock rubbing on the solar panel. I had to put my solar unit on an extension to get it up about 8 feet to keep the stock form using it to "itch a scratchy spot"!

The panel itself is hanging on the neighbors side of the fence, which is the southern facing side, cows really cant get to the panel much.
