Best Drill Doctor

The Basic model is the 500 isn't it ? I bought the 750, a 3/4 "model... And Glenn , I went to that Resonator guitar site you mentioned , and really enjoy it ! I 'm too old to learn , but I sure like to hear it ! I actually met Bukka White in a folk club back in '64. He played a song for me !

(quoted from post at 21:55:10 04/23/14) What Drill Doctor is best for 1/4-1/2" bits?

Thank you,
Glenn F.

I would suggest one of these. Cheap and effective if you take your time and experiment.
I could never get a drill bit sharp with a DD 750 that was given to me as a gift.
I took it back and bought one of these for a little more then the tax on the 750!

unit? Who sells them?

I think this sharpener was sold under many names. Just do a google search or an eBay search for "Drill sharpener attachment.

I might add that these are designed to sharpen 1/8"? to 1/2" bits but with a little experimentation, you should be able to sharpen smaller bits.
I made a special--smaller--bit locator finger, and can sharpen 1/16" bits, but I guess it would be cheaper to just buy the smaller bits.
I have two of these sharpeners and I think I paid about $15.00 from eBay.
The problem I had with the DD was that the "vein chuck" would not center the bit. I could tighten the chuck and move the bit around. If I got it exactly centered, it would do a so-so job of sharpening--if it didn't move during sharpening.
Just a poor chuck design, IMO!
